Analyst: Apple could debut Mac mini, iPod accessories, ‘game box’ at event today
Tuesday, February 28, 2006 - 09:40 AM EDT

"Lehman Bros. analyst Harry Blount said the new products Apple Computer is expected to unveil at a media event scheduled in Cupertino, Calif. later Tuesday could include a Mac Mini targeting the living room, new accessories for the iPod, a game box and a new Intel-based PC. Blount reiterated his equal weight rating on Apple's stock, and his $80 price target, but said the new products may act as a near-term upside catalyst," Tomi Kilgore writes for MarketWatch.

A game box?? Where do these analysts get this... They obviously are scouring these boards...

I posted several times (as a joke) that Apple will be debuting a gaming console... Low and behold, mr smarty pants analyst is now predicting a "game box."

idiots!

Feb 28, 06 - 10:46 am Comment from: Big Tex

Pod Box 360? Don't think so.

Whatever it is, I'm partyin' today!!!!

Feb 28, 06 - 10:49 am Comment from: G Spank

You know what the game box is? It's a Mac mini that can boot Windows games within OS X. That's Apple's game box, and it works with your HD TV.

Feb 28, 06 - 10:51 am Comment from: G Spank

btw, I hope one version of the Mini comes with wireless keyboard and mighty mouse (which would also be a new product) standard.

Feb 28, 06 - 10:53 am Comment from: Tommy Boy

My last way-out-there prediction: Apple is 100% guaranteed to sell some product today.

Feb 28, 06 - 10:54 am Comment from: donnie

i'm holding out for an iPDA...

Feb 28, 06 - 10:57 am Comment from: Matt

His assessment is not that far out there. Think about it, the easiest way for Apple to counter the Micrsoft Xbox/Media Center combo is to not come out with a "Game console" at all, but build it all into the mini. Put in the DVR functionality, wireless controllers along with keyboard and mouse and you're all set. Front Row is your interface...all games could be stored on the HD and can be purchased via iTunes along with your music, podcasts, TV shows and Motion Pictures. I know, i'm dreaming but it makes sense. The only problem is getting the developers on board for ANOTHER gaming platform.

Feb 28, 06 - 10:58 am Comment from: Holy Mackerel

I would still like the iMac shape/style plasma HD TV with built-in core duo Mac, WiFi for streaming movies (Burst suit is quiet, so suit may be resolved and silence is part of the agreement) & internet access, iSight (i.e. Front Row) for full screen walk around iChat and ultimate teenager games (girls dancing, boys shooting) plus being HD ready for connection to the HiFi or a new video Airport Express.

Apple seem to be putting iSight into everything, so it must be for a reason. Maybe because (like SJ said about music) it is universal across all cultures.

Feb 28, 06 - 11:02 am Comment from: soko

A game box? First time I read about that from a "serious" source if analysts can be called that. Where did he get that info from?

Feb 28, 06 - 11:06 am Comment from: European Guy

I just noticed Apple applied for a European trademark (http://oami.eu.int/en/default.htm) for the name MacBook on Feb. 23 2006, only 5 days ago! Would this mean we see the new iBooks today ??

Feb 28, 06 - 11:07 am Comment from: someone else

Matt, you've got a point. But it won't be "another gaming platform" at all. It's MacOSX. If this prediction comes true, I imagine there'll be 1 or more icons added to Front Row. One of which being "Games". Front Row would automatically show you a list of games on the HD (presumably stored in /Applications/Games). It would be the same as playing games on your Mac except it's displayed on your TV. No new games needed. This sure sounds exciting.

Feb 28, 06 - 11:08 am Comment from: gforce

pulled that one right out didn't they. Why would Apple enter into a market that didn't even make Microsoft money. they JUST recently became profitable.

Feb 28, 06 - 11:10 am Comment from: Connor MacBook

Another analyst, another stab in the dark. Have we covered all the possibilities yet?

Feb 28, 06 - 11:10 am Comment from: Aiden

He got that info from reading posts here..

It was a joke... This is how rumors get started.

A dvr/pvr in a mac mini??? Not as long as Apple is in the business of selling video/tv content for a $1.99 from the iTMS...

Feb 28, 06 - 11:13 am Comment from: Return of the Game Sprocket

One of the things that got lost in the OS 9 to OS X transition was game controller input. 3rd party stuff like USB overdrive came out to fill the gap, but the lack of a standard game control panel has hurt gaming on the Macintosh. Am Apple game controller with a pref panel and unified SDK would be a great boon for the Mac in the gaming market.

Not a rumor...
Not a prediction...
But it would be nice.

i think mac daily news is not making much money, they are putting advertisements under this text box now so we get annoyed while scrolling down to type the image verification.

i feel sad for , i guess this web site is going extinct also..

which might mean,, there arent enough mac users, so sales will probably be dissapointing. get rid of the apple stock before 1st quarter sales report

Feb 28, 06 - 11:57 am Comment from: Ampar

The event is set to take place on Tuesday, February 28, 2006 at 10:00 AM Pacific Time at the Apple Town Hall on the company's Cupertino, Calif. campus.

Expect a slight tear in the fabric of the space-time continuum . . .and balloons!

The new CoreDuo's from Intel have a alarmingly high level of defects for a new processor.

Oh Apple, what have you done?

Yes, yes, the balloons will be cube shaped, have Apple logos and USB ports!

Actually the conference is just a ploy. The agenda is "Death to Spanish Colonial Revival style." Each reporter will be given a sledgehammer and a map.

MW: Course as in....of course I got to apologize for having screwed up the lead and for being on the drunk side after fight number X with my wife to be. But on the other hand, MDN should learn or maybe ashamed of the fact that a simple zzzzzzz etc. could screw up their page-settings.

Or is this just my browser? (Opera 8.x)

Anyhow, waiting to get some confirmation on all these idiot rumors and people guessing but it's a long wait....

Cheers and my all your wishes come true...

You can download weendoze player for free and play wmv's full screen, but you can't do it in QuickTime unless you pay the man $30. I think it's time to fix that pronto. It's like hoping you'll sign up for .Mac when you try to get your iChat nick, or expecting that you wouldn't kinow how/bother to change Safari's default launch page.

I would expect these kinds of things in Weendoze. To see Apple do it just makes my favorito computer company look small - real tiny ... mousy, in fact.

Anyway, Lehman says Apple could include ... game box. I doubt it. If anything it's the mini being able to play games too. Ok, let's see how much speed they built into it. MW: "maybe" like in maybe not enough.

Special Notice!

Apple Event (EFAME) will be hosting hot air balloon rides over California (with certain unseemly houses to target for destruction).

Beck will be performing with a host of scientist/philosopher kings deciphering his lyrics.

Steve will perform stupide pet tricks to the sound of "MTV Makes Me Wanna Smoke Crack."

For the love of God leave your family locked up!

MacDude, don't read MacFixIt unless you're already experiencing a problem. They report every little glitch and burp, even if as few as two or three people report them. Reading that site will make you paranoid. I don't worry about any Apple tech problem until it becomes a big enough deal to hit the non-"fix-it" sites.

Feb 28, 06 - 01:00 pm Comment from: OK, don't do this anymore people....

If you post a comment that has a long succession of letters without spaces, like the "Luc" guy above, the site will widen to accommodate the wide string of letters, making every other post very difficult to read. THIS IS NEEDLESS AND ANNOYING PLEASE STOP.

Feb 28, 06 - 01:10 pm Comment from: Ampar

LordRobin: Good advice. Also, for the same reason, stay away from MacScrewitup.com. Or is that CNet?
