RUMOR: AT&T to launch $99 8GB Apple iPhone 3GS in time for Christmas
Thursday, November 05, 2009 - 05:05 PM EDT

"We’ve heard now from two sources that AT&T, and we guess Apple, are contemplating launching an 8GB iPhone 3GS at the $99 price point before Christmas," The Boy Genius Report dishes.

Full, but very brief, post here.

That's cheap enough for me to justify replacing my 3G with the 3GS and give my old one to my wife!

But the holiday lineup is already set.

@Cascadians
This is not a new product, it's a new price.

The cost is in the contract. The difference between a $100 phone and a $200 phone is about nothing.

Nov 05, 09 - 06:22 pm Comment from: iMaki

No it's not! The 3G is only 8 GB iPhone right now! There is no 8 GB 3GS, just 16 & 32.

AT&T;doesn't release iPhones, Apple does.

I think it's great! I still have the 2G 8GB, use my iPhone for emails about 35 apps, picture and a little music, still have 3GB left, a hundred bucks saved for storage I would never use

Probably more of a hassle to produce a separate product than to introduce an 8 GB 3G S. It will also make the competition crazier and solidify Apple's hold on the market.

Does ATnT charge the same for the first generation iPhone that operates on Edge as the iPhone 3gs?

Nov 05, 09 - 07:15 pm Comment from: Just Me

We pay $10 less per month for data and pay nothing for 200 text messages. That's the biggest thing holding us back from upgrading our first gen iPhones.

Thanks for the info.

@ Just Me

I had the 2G 8GB as well, but upgraded to the 3GS. You would not believe the speed difference. Yes, it's an extra $10/mo, but when you can use 3G for Safari, Mail, Maps, etc., you can't believe you lived with Edge as long as you did. It's like moving from dialup to broadband, thanks to 3G and the much faster processor.

It also feels lighter, too. Don't know that it is, but perception says it is.

I'd be tempted to get one for my husband -- he needs a new phone & he might like the iPhone...and it's cheap enough that if he doesn't, I'll convert it to my use (currently have 2Gen 3G) and talk him into an iPod touch for my video and audio. wink

Nice to hear from a cool Mac gal.

Lineup is set - here come the Specials

Nov 05, 09 - 08:56 pm Comment from: Just Me

No 3G where we live at this time. I'll have to check the Verizon ad to see where 3G is available around here.

Nov 05, 09 - 10:13 pm Comment from: OpJ

Gee, I'd pay twice as much for a 3G iPhone that didn't drop 75% of my calls a day.

Nov 06, 09 - 09:57 am Comment from: Macdoc

AT&T;need to lower their rates.
