Only those who actually bought the Apple TV are allowed to take the survey.

Feb 09, 09 - 04:55 pm Comment from: An Optimist

"If you could change one thing about your Apple TV, what would that be?"

Safari web browser on Apple TV!

Feb 09, 09 - 05:00 pm Comment from: Peruchito

apps for me. i would love to be able to check the weather on the tv. then again, i have an iphone so...

Feb 09, 09 - 05:01 pm Comment from: ecrabb

Hmmm... My 1-year old AppleTV must not be registered because I haven't gotten anything about it.

Feb 09, 09 - 05:07 pm Comment from: ApplePi

Question 3 is kind of funny... considering the survey was sent to those that bought the device.

Feb 09, 09 - 05:07 pm Comment from: Jubei

I want to stream my content to my iPhone/Touch outside of my home when I travel. Now that would be sweet.

Feb 09, 09 - 05:16 pm Comment from: Mark S.

Welcome to the Never Ending Survey!

Feb 09, 09 - 05:21 pm Comment from: Grrrilla

Silly survey, really, only polling the people who already bought an AppleTV. They should be much more curious about the vast majority who have chosen not to buy it (and particularly those who would like to, but are waiting).

Add the AppleTV functionalities and connections to a mini, and then you've really got something. Until then, each comes up just a little short. Oh, and a Blu-Ray drive would be nice, too. I recently bought a PS3 mostly for Blu-Ray (and maybe just a little bit of gaming), and had much higher hopes for iLife media browsing. Big disappointment. But add the device I described (ATV connections and media streaming with browser and full computer media access - not just via iLife) and it's a no-brainer, killer App.

If I could change one thing?

Put the iTunes visualizer on it!

Feb 09, 09 - 05:32 pm Comment from: Cubert

"Which of the following best describes your current household composition?"

They left out the most common composition that I run into every day - single mom with multiple kids all with different dads - some known and some not.

Also, they are short-shrifting the Muslims with more than one wife.

Feb 09, 09 - 05:34 pm Comment from: Connor MacBook

Does this tv 3.0 is even further away than I'd hoped ...?

Feb 09, 09 - 05:47 pm Comment from: derail

Add volume control to video. AH screw it. patch-stick it. Boxee is killer.

Feb 09, 09 - 06:00 pm Comment from: MacMental

Best question: If you could change one thing on the AppleTV...

Answer: add a browser.

My Sony PS3 has one, but no Flash support = no free TV = useless.

Feb 09, 09 - 06:00 pm Comment from: Jag

Underline the previous comment

Safari on Apple TV

That pretty much would take care of everything.

Feb 09, 09 - 06:06 pm Comment from: Spark

I took the survey. What would I change? More movie rental content.

Feb 09, 09 - 06:13 pm Comment from: Mr. Reeee

Being limited to iTunes and iPhoto (especially) makes no sense. It would be great if it supported Keynote, viewing PDFs, things like that.

TV is just limited in it's current form. It either needs to be beefed up considerably or get the ability to add things... gee, like a real computer! A Mac mini connected to an Airport Extreme or Time Capsule still kicks TV's ass around the block!

Make a hybrid TV/Mac mini with Full-HD (1080p) output from TV /iTunes sources. And FireWire 800 to connect external drives.

Feb 09, 09 - 06:19 pm Comment from: chuck

I think those who think the survey should not be of people who have already bought an ATV are wrong. Every day on these forums I read over and over posts from folks saying they do not own such and such Apple product and will not buy because..... If I want to know if someone likes a product I really prefer the opinion of someone who owns one. I could not care less about the man on the street who has no experience. And I have had my ATV since the first month it appeared and I took part in the survey. Do not know why other older experienced owners did not.

Feb 09, 09 - 06:26 pm Comment from: CourtJester

Change one thing - make Apple TV the supremecommand and control centre of the connected TV and other peripherals.

I hate fumbling through seemingly illogical menus to get the TV and VDV and HDD to do what I want and when.

Feb 09, 09 - 06:40 pm Comment from: Raymond in DC

It used to be said, "Apple doesn't use focus groups. They rely on Steve Jobs." Well, he's on medical leave. So they make do with surveys.

Feb 09, 09 - 07:11 pm Comment from: Tommy Boy

I don't currently own an tv. But I plan to buy one the moment Apple upgrades to version 3.0. But I lied and took the survey anyway.

My requests: SDK (which flows intp Boxee, content, apps, games, porn, etc). Parental controls (so I can watch porn in my bedroom and keep Spongebob in the living room). Larger hard drives or easy external expansion.

Feb 09, 09 - 07:26 pm Comment from: Synthmeister

Casual gaming, emailing and internet would be great for the AppleTV. Also, the ability to suck in content from Boxee, Pandora, etc.

Naturally, the iPhone and iPod touch would be the best remote for such apps!

Feb 09, 09 - 07:34 pm Comment from: clunker

Hmmm... My 1-year old AppleTV must not be registered because I haven't gotten anything about it.

Same here. Also 1-year old AppleTV, and nothing from Apple.

HMMMMM.... why did Apple SEND anything out? Couldn't they have done the survey right over AppleTV itself?

Feb 09, 09 - 07:43 pm Comment from: SpongeBob

Well, the big news here isnt the ATV. Apple are actually doing some market research!

Feb 09, 09 - 07:44 pm Comment from: rickw

If you could change one thing about your Apple TV, what would that be?"

- A FREAKING ON/OFF SWITCH

Feb 09, 09 - 08:49 pm Comment from: Sum Jung Gai

No doubt. An On/Off switch would mean we could stop reaching around back of the piping hot AppleTV to unplug and replug every time it freaking crashes.

You'd think Apple's beta testers would have.... uh.... Oh yeah. They don't do quality control. Ship it and laugh, baby!

Don't get me wrong, I love my AppleTV and have cancelled cable and NetFlix because of it. But I still want to throttle the marketing bozo at Apple who decided that not only do their products not need beta testing, but they don't need a way to reset the damned thing without burning oneself.

Feb 09, 09 - 09:04 pm Comment from: power on

If you really need a switch for AppleTV, get a CLAPPER. LOL

But I still want to throttle the marketing bozo at Apple

Remember how Steve abhors buttons? He probably axed the switch himself!

Feb 09, 09 - 09:06 pm Comment from: TowerTone

Got my warranted replacement in the mail today.
I think they run too hot.
(like the morning after Jalapeños....)

Feb 09, 09 - 09:24 pm Comment from: Jeff

Enable that frakkin' usb port on that back to allow cheap, large USB drives for mass storage.

Feb 09, 09 - 09:33 pm Comment from: SteveRey

If you could change anything
-add Safari
-Allow addition of an external USB Drive
-Allow for a USB Keyboard (add bluetooth to version 3.0)
-Allow me to have items on my Apple TV (such as my ripped DVD collection) that are not taking up space in iTunes.

Feb 09, 09 - 10:01 pm Comment from: A non owner

I'm sorry, this is a rubbish survey because it's limited to Apple TV owners only. So I guess the views of non-Apple TV owners just aren't important. What I'm trying to say is that Apple is ignoring the views of potential buyers.

Feb 09, 09 - 10:05 pm Comment from: MacSheikh

""If you could change one thing about your Apple TV, what would that be?"

I'd add freakin' laser beams to it! Laser beams are awesome! I can program it to shoot laser beams at anyone who tries to touch my TV!

Feb 09, 09 - 11:16 pm Comment from: BD

changes?

unlimited internet access.

Feb 10, 09 - 12:35 am Comment from: rickw

If you could change one thing about your Apple TV, what would that be?"

DIVX PLAYBACK.

Feb 10, 09 - 01:16 am Comment from: TowerTone

hopefully this survey will help Apple catch up with Sony

Feb 10, 09 - 04:10 am Comment from: None-Too-Great Hits

I hope that Apple will have a completely integrated Mac solution available in Japan before we follow the US into going all-digital -- that's two years from now. I'm holding off replacing our 2-decades old equipment as long as possible, hoping that Apple will be there to receive my money when the time comes to fork it over.

Feb 10, 09 - 07:24 am Comment from: ralph from berlin

"we don't do market research. we just want to make great products." steve jobs, fortune, 3.17.08 issue

can it be that steve is out the house and they don't know what to do? ask the people what they want? common.

"if i asked my customers what they wanted, they would have said a faster horse", henry ford.

please apple stick to your guns, surprise us. think ahaed. skate to where the puck is going to be, look for vectors in time. and don't give us a blueray-dvr-appletv-safarionyourtv-monster just because we don't know any better.

Feb 10, 09 - 11:51 am Comment from: John

If it's only open to people who purchased an AppleTV, why is there the option of selecting "I did not purchase an AppleTV...?"

Feb 10, 09 - 12:20 pm Comment from: pluki7

@ John
My question exactly!

Feb 11, 09 - 03:39 am Comment from: Mister Snitch

Want some kind of ability to surf the web from my couch. Want to be able to play App Store games on a big screen, controlling them with my iPod Touch. And Apple should partner with Netflix. Doing only the latter, and nothing else, would make the units fly off shelves. The other stuff is gravy. Everyone likes gravy.

Feb 12, 09 - 04:00 am Comment from: Mrs. Madrigal

I think surfing the web from your couch is called a laptop. Back in the day there was WebTV. Didn't really take off.

Besides I import DVDs using HandBrake to watch on my iPod, and I would watch them on TV if I had one. I just wish I could import Blu-ray to watch on it too. Perhaps when it is more mainstream.

I wish I could have taken the survey because I am seriously considering buying one come 3.0. Looks like I'm going to have to wait like the rest of Apple's fans.
