Fraiche Yogurt: Apple CEO Steve Jobs ‘in great health’
Wednesday, December 31, 2008 - 11:19 AM EST

"Amid a flurry of (disputed) reports and rumors about Apple chief executive Steve Jobs’ 'rapidly declining health,' blogger Robert Scoble did some field work to dig for the truth today," MG Siegler reports for VentureBeat.

"Well okay, he was in a yogurt shop with his friend, Socialtext cofounder Ross Mayfield, when Mayfield mentioned he had seen Jobs there in the past. So Scoble decided to ask the person working behind the counter if they’d seen Jobs recently. And guess what? They had," Siegler reports.

"'I’m in Palo Alto. Just had yogurt at shop that Steve Jobs eats at frequently. They said he was in a couple of days ago and is in great health,' Scoble posted on the social aggregation service FriendFeed," Siegler reports. "Apparently, the yogurt store in question, Fraiche Yogurt, delivers yogurt to Apple executives every week, Scoble wrote in a comment. A separate blog, Swanktastic, confirms that Jobs (and other big names in tech) have been seen at the shop in recent months."

MacDailyNews Take: This is what it's come to, folks. Meanwhile, SEC Chairman Christopher Cox, a man who can perform a miracle (make Steve Ballmer look like a competent manager), replied, "Oh, forget it. It's just too hard to tell!" when asked to decipher his ass from his elbow.

Oh, this is too funny.

Dec 31, 08 - 11:35 am Comment from: marco

Steve Jobs needs to set the record straight to shut everyone up. These rumors are bad for Apple...

Dec 31, 08 - 11:37 am Comment from: Digits McGee

Yeah, but is it "fat-free" yogurt?

Seinfeld memories.

Dec 31, 08 - 11:38 am Comment from: ME

Steve HAS set the record straight - it's just these f#&$ing short-sellers who keep propagating this myth. In an interview with MSNBC just a couple of months ago Steve Jobs himself told on camera that his health is great and there is no need for people to worry.

Dec 31, 08 - 11:42 am Comment from: Winston

Can we get confirmation of this from the Wawa sandwich man?

Dec 31, 08 - 11:43 am Comment from: HMCIV

@marco.

They tried that, it didn't work. Congratulations 2008. This was the year when a Pinkberry cashier became more credible than a respected CEO.

Dec 31, 08 - 11:46 am Comment from: OBill-Wan Kenobi

I wonder at what point does this rumor spreading become actionable? If you could reasonably show malice could a group of investors bring a class action against those that create the rumors. If the rumor starts with Gizmodo and the effect of said rumor is well known (i.e. - stock drops) how could there not be malice in Gizmodo's starting the rumor? I wonder if a court would be willing to hear this case and could Gizmodo afford to defend themselves?

Dec 31, 08 - 11:48 am Comment from: jeffgtr

I don't think the Gizmodo article merits a response from Jobs or anyone at Apple. Steve should just go about his biz as usual and ignore it.

Dec 31, 08 - 11:51 am Comment from: KenC

Steve HAS set the record straight. It's these individual numbnuts who want their own record set straight. Believe you me, Steve will not respond to every Tom, Dick or Harry who wants an answer. It's just like that woman who accosted him last year at MWSF, Violet Blue or something, he didn't say a word to her after she rudely interrupted him.

Dec 31, 08 - 12:13 pm Comment from: theloniousMac

@Marco

I seriously wish Apple would sue Gizmodo for reporting false rumors. They sue people for reporting on product announcements, I think this is far more serious than reporting that the new MacBook has Firewire 1600.

Gizmodo has once again proven that it is the single most irresponsible and untrustworthy piece of crap on the Internet.

Dec 31, 08 - 12:16 pm Comment from: Derek in Milan

Yes, it was the amazingly stupid Violet Blue, who's massive ego is in indirect proportion to her brain.
Imagine being approached by every roach wannabee with a web site?

Not a surprise that Steve keeps a low profile in life.

The guy is the real deal, not like Gates or Bush or some such attention-seeking tosser.
Leave our Steve alone. Enough.

Dec 31, 08 - 12:19 pm Comment from: Derek in Milan

'whose', not 'who's'.

Thats what I get for attacking an innocent porn site proprietor.....

Dec 31, 08 - 12:20 pm Comment from: finelineBob

Whether his health is frail or not, what does walking into a yogurt shop and placing an order have to do with a medical diagnosis?

... that is, unless their door frame is really a PET scanner....

MDN MW: Need, as in "We need some facts here, folks."

Dec 31, 08 - 12:26 pm Comment from: Rainer

Yeah, this is the right closing-news for 2008.
In 2009, someone will probably climb down the sewer next to his house and analyze his urine to get a _definite_ answer.

I'm feeling sorry for Steve Jobs, healthy or not.

Dec 31, 08 - 12:36 pm Comment from: jjjj

next, we'll hear that SJ is eating full-fat ice cream and wearing a 30 gb Zune...

Dec 31, 08 - 12:41 pm Comment from: MacIrish

With the type of ilk that runs the SEC, the media, and so forth, Steve and his doctors could publish hourly reports, and it wouldn't make any difference - the rumors would still fly and the shorts would still try to throw cold water on any AAPL resurgence.

The market manipulators have no interest in facts, only emotions that they can control.

Dec 31, 08 - 12:45 pm Comment from: macview

My prediction - Steve pulled out of Macworld so it can be replaced by a annual "I'm still alive" Jobsworld. A yearly check is a good thing.

Dec 31, 08 - 12:59 pm Comment from: Bertyao

I think Steve jobs strategy is to never appear in public again.

Dec 31, 08 - 01:00 pm Comment from: Cubert

Wiston,
I wonder how many people here remember that reference. Or how many even know what a Wawa is.

Happy New Year!
I hope they clean up all that trash around ESP on Corinthian so I can walk my dog without her spending the entire time trying to dumpster dive!
That's my New Years hope - resolution to come later.

Dec 31, 08 - 01:02 pm Comment from: John

Love your take, MDN!!!!!

It cracked me up (Oh, forget it. It's just too hard to tell!" when asked to decipher his ass from his elbow.)

Hilarious!

Dec 31, 08 - 01:04 pm Comment from: Cubert

Ironic that we get better reporting from yogurt shop clerks than the analcysts.

Dec 31, 08 - 01:10 pm Comment from: Luke Skywalker

Wow, we're relying on yogurt sales clerks for medical updates on people. Scary...

Dec 31, 08 - 01:12 pm Comment from: LordRobin

But, but, Mr. Spamsite yesterday said that Jobs was coughing up blood in his lap as he was writing his post. Said to iCal him and everything! Oh, who can we believe? Who?!?

Dec 31, 08 - 01:31 pm Comment from: Winston

@Cubert:

Happy new year to you, too! Don't expect anyone to clean up around ESP (or anywhere else) now that the city is flat broke. But at least something is finally happening at the Leaning Tower of Fairmount.

P.S. If you're looking for a good Philly chat site, try http://www.philadelphiaspeaks.com. My friends and I used to post on phillyblog.com but it's been overrun by nimrods and spammers. I go by Winston on both those sites, too.

Sorry, MDNers, for the completely off-topic side conversation.

Dec 31, 08 - 01:43 pm Comment from: Al

Gee, and I thought Wawa was just a gas and potty break stop half way between Sault Ste Marie and Thunder Bay.

Who knew?

Dec 31, 08 - 01:47 pm Comment from: cptnkirk

WaWa is a town in northern Ontario Canada. Famous for a giant goose (Canada Goose) sculpture.

Dec 31, 08 - 01:48 pm Comment from: Thisbob

Does anybody know if Fraiche Yogurt sells non-dairy yogurt? Or can we take this as confirmation that Steve Jobs eats dairy?

Dec 31, 08 - 02:18 pm Comment from: Winston

@cptnkirk:

Wawa is also a chain of convenience stores popular in the mid Atlantic — named for the same goose, which is used in the store logo.

Steve is a strict Vegan

"Veganism is a diet and lifestyle that seeks to exclude the use of animals for food, clothing, or any other purpose. Vegans endeavor not to use or consume animal products of any kind"

Dec 31, 08 - 03:39 pm Comment from: Connor MacBook

Maybe Steve had the soy

Dec 31, 08 - 04:02 pm Comment from: Thisbob

I read through Fraiche Yogurt's website and they don't appear to have any soy or other vegan yogurts. They make their own plain yogurt from cow's milk and then everything else is an additive or topping.

I'm a vegan myself and would *like* for Steve to be one.

Dec 31, 08 - 04:10 pm Comment from: ken1w

> Steve Jobs needs to set the record straight to shut everyone up. These rumors are bad for Apple...

Nope... The media is doing exactly what Steve Jobs and Apple want. Providing free coverage, and creating a high level of curiosity in the general public, leading up to Macworld. Who would tune in to listen to Phil Schiller if there wasn't this mystery and suspense regarding Steve Jobs?

I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm more interested in this year's Macworld keynote now than in previous years when Steve Jobs was doing the presentation. Mission accomplished, Apple!

Dec 31, 08 - 04:27 pm Comment from: doc

Cox is using his ass cheeks as ear muffs, and his elbow can be found in the eye of all average stock holders everywhere as he shoves them aside to make way for Daddy Warbucks.

Dec 31, 08 - 04:31 pm Comment from: ken1w

@ Artist

> Steve is a strict Vegan

Perhaps he WAS one, but not anymore.

Dec 31, 08 - 07:14 pm Comment from: LordRobin

> Steve is a strict Vegan.

I'm pretty sure that I read that he's at least a pescatarian. I.e., he'll eat fish.

Jeez, come on -- yogurt! What's more hippy than yogurt? I can totally imagine Jobs eating yogurt.

Dec 31, 08 - 07:25 pm Comment from: Steve Ballmer

"Fraiche Yogurt"? What the hell is that?

Here in Redmond we tantalize our taste buds at Douche Sherbet.

Mmmmm, nummy.

Jan 01, 09 - 08:16 am Comment from: JAYGEE

The only options are for either Steve Jobs to put weight on, or resign as CEO.

These rumors will continue, even after Steve Jobs says he is in good health, which will continue to hurt Apple and its shares.

News about his health will continue, so something needs to be done to stop it, and the only thing will be for him to go or put weight on.

Jan 02, 09 - 04:55 pm Comment from: praus

@Steve is a "strict" vegan

I don't know how strict he is. I KNOW I heard him say in some keynote that he loves sushi. My guess is he sticks to a somewhat vegan diet but includes fish and possibly dairy.

I don't think Steve is under any obligation to cow tow to the FUD spreaders out there. Steven has shown time and again that he lives by his own rules. So what if the stock is taking a temporary dive. Steve and Apple's bored know it's just a bunch of FUD. It doesn't effect them. They know it will all be resolved in it's own time. Until then they can keep doing their work and keep getting paid. How is this something they should care about? How does going to extra work to clear up other people's misconception help them in anyway?
