This is rediculous. Jailbreaking doesn't hurt Apple. They don't have to condone it, but that doesn't mean that they should alienating their customers by rendering their devices useless!

So a bunch of Russians and some teenagers can't play games with their iPhones because Apple tightened security on iTunes. So what.

Better security on itunes is not a bad thing for anyone else. Quite the opposite.

When tools break, people always assume Apple targeted them. That's arrogant. It's coincidental.

We should be grateful to these "jailbreak" folks - they're helping to make the iPhone more secure in the long run, by helping Apple identify and plug these vulnerabilities far more quickly than would otherwise be possible.

Apple has a partner here to think about. Which means under contract they have a legal obligation to At&t;. If you don't like that Apple is being respectful of their partner, then by all means, buy another mobile device. I hear Microsoft shits all over their partners. So for all of you who don't like how Apple is approaching business, just take your business elsewhere, Apple will replace you with 10 more iPhone users, that will turn into 5 more Mac users. So, Apple is supposed to prevent malicious attacks on the iPhone OS but people are upset when Apple shuts down one of the key vectors of mounting such an attack?

There are two different terms that are being mixed up: Jailbroken and Unlocked. Jailbroken means that you can run unauthorized software on your iPhone, unlocking means that you can use your phone on other GSM networks.

Ok, I understand that Apple wants to protect the integrity of the user experience, but the 3G phone has not been unlocked yet -- at least with a software unlock, and I am not sure about the hardware versions floating out there. What this really gets down to is protecting the app store developers. If you have a jailbroken phone, you can install unlocked versions of the app store software, and this piracy is occurring.

However, beyond that, I enjoy being able to make my iPhone completely mine by altering the look and feel of the UI. There are great programs available through Cydia where you can categorize your apps into folders, launch using "stacks", download YouTube videos, and add widgets to the lockscreen and status bar.

Don't knock it until you try it. You get to a whole new level of understanding the phone and its inner beauty. Plus, if you have a problem, reinstall the stock firmware and take it into an Apple store. No problems...

Might I add that many of the app store developers also began through the jailbreaking channels. This really helped the app store to take off as quickly as it did since there were many titles already written and ready to go.

I'd just be happy if they made a theme app and put themes on the app store .. both free and paid. I'd LOVE to change the icon theme to something more subdued such as LibertyBlack. :D
