Analyst thinks impact of Apple’s iPhone SDK is ‘neutral’ to RIM
Friday, March 07, 2008 - 04:41 PM EDT

"Canaccord Adams analyst Peter Misek said in a note to clients that he thinks the impact of Apple's software development kit is neutral to RIM and maintained his 'Buy' rating and $150 target price for the stock," The Associated Press reports.

"'Microsoft, with Windows Mobile/ActiveSync, Nokia with Intellisync, and Motorola with Good Technology have all fared poorly in the enterprise. We have no reason to expect otherwise from Apple,' he said," AP reports.

MacDailyNews Take: iCal'ed. With a bullet.

Apple has quite the amusing propensity for flushing brain-dead analysts out of the woodwork. Careful, they scatter in the light.

Amazingly dumb.

Mar 07, 08 - 05:54 pm Comment from: BigmacX

I can't believe that there are still morons like these out in the wild.

Mar 07, 08 - 05:54 pm Comment from: bizlaw

He's actually correct.

At least until June . . . .

Mar 07, 08 - 05:58 pm Comment from: almux

Hum, neutral... Just because they coudn't dare say: "insignificant". That would have be too much of a lie!

Mar 07, 08 - 05:59 pm Comment from: Spark

Motorola with "Good Technology" is not in the same league as the Microsoft ActiveSync with its huge install base of Exchange. No comparison.

Mar 07, 08 - 05:59 pm Comment from: Spark

That's the company line over their at Canaccord while they quietly unload all the RIM stock they are holding.

Mar 07, 08 - 06:03 pm Comment from: Jim - TIV

until June it is, then all hell is gonna break loose.

Mar 07, 08 - 06:05 pm Comment from: igads

WTF, neutral to RIM? Has this guy lost his mind and who exactly would give this guy money or a job?

This was by far the best one of the day. It's Friday, I need a drink now.

Mar 07, 08 - 06:07 pm Comment from: HMCIV

The only major force they're still missing is Lotus Notes. But I'm not worried about IBM making the grade.

Mar 07, 08 - 06:13 pm Comment from: Jay-Z

Unless they suffer from delusions of grandeur, RIM collectively wet their pants yesterday.

Mar 07, 08 - 06:17 pm Comment from: Brawndo Drinker

HMCIV,

IBM to bring Lotus Notes email to Apple iPhone, iPod touch; Lotus Symphony for Mac

Mar 07, 08 - 06:18 pm Comment from: Chris Rose

Another idiot "analyst"...

Mar 07, 08 - 06:28 pm Comment from: TowerTone

"neutering", not "neutral". It was just transcribed wrong.

"Peter Misek said in a note to clients that he thinks the impact of Apple's software development kit is neutering to RIM "

There, makes sense now, doesn't it?

Mar 07, 08 - 06:31 pm Comment from: Cubert

Ohhhhh I love it when these people are shown to be fools in 6-18 months. Unfortunately, it seems that their employers have a much shorter memory.

Mar 07, 08 - 06:31 pm Comment from: HolyMackerel

Now if Apple introduced a similar SDK for the TV…

One environment to review, purchase, download, install and run games, widgets, movies, etc in the den, office, living room and on the bus.

Mar 07, 08 - 06:32 pm Comment from: rimgone

I just sold my measly holding of RIMM ...looking at the 28% number for Apple vs. 43% for RIMM, which numbers are for the US only, I can see them tending to reverse later in 2008. For Research In Motion its current product line is everything; for Apple, the iPhone has great potential but the company isn't dependent on one product line. But, inertia is a major factor that will slow down RIMM's decline, plus it has coverage in countries where Apple is not. It will take a few months for Apple's iPhone superiority to gain traction in the RIMM market, as it were.

Mar 07, 08 - 06:32 pm Comment from: freefromdesign

Wow, I haven't ever seen so many dumb remarks in one day. I agree with igads, time to drink

@Towertone

Oh gawd, that was perfect. A great way to finish off a Friday!!

Mar 07, 08 - 06:34 pm Comment from: little tiny nitch guy

Translation to the Street: Don't short RIMM until we've had the chance to quietly dump our holdings.

MDN: "Careful, they scatter in the light"

Time to spray some analysticide?

Mar 07, 08 - 07:27 pm Comment from: Ampar

It's more neural to RIM.

Mar 07, 08 - 08:04 pm Comment from: NCMacMan

So . . . who here will be shorting RIMM in the near future?

Mar 07, 08 - 08:17 pm Comment from: It's About Time

Seems like the FUD machine is already at work. Let's see, FUD tried to derail the iPhone...that didn't work. Now, their BACK led by the FUD leader Ballmer. What's funny to me is MS license their software (yes, they are whores) while poo-pooing the iPhone. What a circus. By August the dust ought to start settling on these Morons brains.

Mar 07, 08 - 10:04 pm Comment from: ken1w

In the presentation, that cartoony diagram with a phone that looked suspiciously like a Blackberry was great. It made light of the recent and recurring RIM outages without specific names.

Mar 07, 08 - 10:14 pm Comment from: Why the Gloating?

RIM isn't some evil-doer that deserves to be pilloried, as though it's an MS clone.

It's not enough for the iPhone to be wildly successful. You want it to destroy, as well.

Who are the MS clones now?

"Neutral" means he doesn't know, so he can't guess either way.

Mar 08, 08 - 12:34 am Comment from: Mike

I think it would be great to get these morons Email addresses and starting flooding them with our comments as stated here. Show them that ignorant comments like those will NOT go unnoticed. Here is this buttheads:

anti-creative cretin in da house!!!

Beotch!

Mar 08, 08 - 01:07 am Comment from: scolbert

I have no idea what "neutral" means... these analysts live in a silly world. I think the enterprise features means that the iphone is NOT neutral with respect to RIMM and will begin to take market share. I also read on Product, http://www.personafile.com/products that iPhone's 2.0 software will support new hardware, namely a 3g iphone

Mar 08, 08 - 01:24 am Comment from: Missy Pants

''Microsoft, with Windows Mobile/ActiveSync, Nokia with Intellisync, and Motorola with Good Technology have all fared poorly in the enterprise. We have no reason to expect otherwise from Apple,' he said," AP reports.'

Reminds me of;

'Palm CEO Ed Colligan, commenting on then-rumored Apple iPhone, Nov. 16, 2006 - We've learned and struggled for a few years here figuring out how to make a decent phone. PC (Apple) guys are not going to just figure this out. They're not going to just walk in.'

Mar 08, 08 - 01:59 am Comment from: Rip Ragged

Do you guy mind shameless self-promotion?

These lysts should not think with their anal.
Pick up your brains.
We are living the second revolution of the computers and Apple is not going to lose it.

Mar 08, 08 - 11:31 am Comment from: Cubert

"We are living the second revolution of the computers and Apple is not going to lose it."

You mean Apple is Neo??? I thought this was like the 8th or 9th revolution?

Mar 08, 08 - 01:02 pm Comment from: alansky

Former analyst Peter Misek was spotted recently working at his new job. He's now a shoe salesman at WalMart.

Mar 08, 08 - 01:08 pm Comment from: Ampar

"He's now a shoe salesman at WalMart."

Funnier since it's self-serve. Maybe he's just a stalker?

Mar 08, 08 - 06:29 pm Comment from: Monger

Evidently there's a been a big misunderstanding. The analyst's source actually said "neutralize RIM".

Once again Apple fires a shot across the bow, this time in the direction of RIM. So I guess that would be a RIM shot.

Mar 08, 08 - 10:20 pm Comment from: Rip Ragged

Analysts, weathermen, and economists should all switch jobs for a week to see if anyone notices a difference in the quality of the predictions.

Palm readers and astrologers could probably get better accuracy.

What a bunch of pinheads.

Mar 08, 08 - 10:55 pm Comment from: ElderNorm

@Spark,
"That's the company line over their at Canaccord while they quietly unload all the RIM stock they are holding."

ROTFLOL...Absolutely. And we all know that analysis can write but they cannot analysis and write at the same time. grin

you guys are funny. iPhone will thrive...but so will Blackberry. The market is simply too large and consumers/users love choice regardless of whether iPhone is and will continue to be the superior total platform.

Mar 09, 08 - 07:59 pm Comment from: Crazylegs

Wow, check this one out - this could impact core software development for iPhone, and not in a good way. They better change this...
