Apple CEO Steve Jobs talks stock price, iPhone in China, MacBook Air, iPhone sales
Tuesday, January 15, 2008 - 02:58 PM EDT

Apple CEO Steve Jobs has just appeared on CNBC with Jim Goldman and touted the new incredibly thin MacBook Air -- "A product we lusted after," said Jobs.

Jobs also reported that rumors of on-again, off-again negotiations with China Mobile are simply untrue; just a single China Mobile rep. has flown out to Cupertino just once. There are no ongoing negotiations, just a first meeting. Jobs wants iPhone in China, but details will come later.

Jobs also remarked on the iPhone's "off-the-charts" customer satisfaction and said that any product that is so beloved is likely to be very successful. Jobs said he is very happy with 4 million iPhone sales to date and with achieving nearly 20% U.S. smartphone market in their first quarter of sales (as per Gartner).

Jobs also said that he is unconcerned with day-to-day Apple share price fluctuations and he's running the company for long-term success and expects Wall Street to reward the company accordingly as the company performs.

The interview will be able to be seen via CNBC shortly here.

Wow. I wish they would have made that banner a little bit bigger. It didn't quite block the entire view of the item they were discussing.

It's all about the show....not the content, apparently.

What's the format of that clip? Flip4Mac tries to play it (Safari's plug-in, that is) but it pops up some dumb error code. Is it infested with Windows DRM?

And why Apple stock dropped 10 bucks. And also why Apple leaked the whole thing before hand.

A big Who Gives a Crap.

Apple lives by the sword and dies by it too. There buzz wasn't this time. And I'm a Mac addict so don't go there.

MB Air? Nice. But not a must have. Sell what I have and get one? Nope. This is the 2008 version of the Cube.

AppleTV? Have one. 40GB original version. Where is the plug a hard drive into AppleTV via it's USB and play my OWNED ripped movies and play? Sorry this sucks. Movie rentals. OK. Had to happen. So what.

Airport with HD? Time Capsule? If it works (or doesn't work as Air Disk doesn't) who cares again. FIX AIR DISK APPLE! This is a straw that breaks the camel Apple. Sucker us ALL into BUYING the new Airport N with Time Machine backup via Airport and then don't implement it. ONLY so your could make us all look like chumps with this crap today.

iPhone? I own 4. NO iChat OR COPY/PASTE? Another shoe gives a crap Apple.

All in all a bust of a MacWorld. BUST. Stock dropping is the evidence from investors too.

You're losing me Apple. I will never go to Windows of course. But your shit does stink at this point.

NO 16GB or more iPhone.
NO copy/paste
NO iChat
NO all in one Inbox for email
NO multi-delete of email

This was Steve Jobs WORST MacWorld Keynote EVER.

What is the big moment of today? Apple defines itself by "big moments". Today was basically product updates.

Rentals is a given. Had to happen. Yawn.

iPhone update? Eye candy. Jiggling icons? Bigger yawn. Functionality please Apple.

Airport Extreme? I bought the original release. And also a gig release. Air Disk doesn't work. I've bought 4 different hard drives. One NAS too. No go. And you don't think Apple KNEW they were going to release this unit with built in HD? So why make Air Disk reliable. NO Time Machine wireless implementation that WORKED in the the Beta of Leopard. Why do you think that? And the azz I am I order the 1 TB today. But please Apple is NOT GIVING ONE CRAP about it's customers who buy into their new hardware.

iPhone? Dispute one thing I wrote.

People use Apple products to carry on business my friend. We do love Apple. But when they misuse us, me, I get pissed.

Today was Apple knowing their loyal customers are expendable. Big mistake Apple.

Their fall can be so much faster than the rise. And Apple has to decide. I feel they're making their choice. And they think the LOYAL Apple users are a given. And we are not.

Fix the bloody iPhone. It's a few hundred dollar out lay to dump the iPhone. Simple. Same with Airport.

The MacBook Air will fail. A dud. The laptop version of the Cube.

It makes me rather sick to my stomach to see the name of my favorite composer connected with such a simpleminded person. There ought to be a law.

“Their fall can be so much faster than the rise. And Apple has to decide. I feel they're making their choice. And they think the LOYAL Apple users are a given. And we are not.”

Apple doesn’t care about its LOYAL users because their not the ones who made it what it is today. The success of products like the iPhone and AppleTV depend on them getting the same kind of mass market acceptance the iPod has. It’s not the dark old days of the 90s when Apple relied on its fan base for survival and that’s a good thing not a bad.

Jan 15, 08 - 08:35 pm Comment from: gilby2u

Won't play in Safari.....err

Jan 15, 08 - 08:51 pm Comment from: mozart11

LorD1776

So you're just a programmed simpleton and Apple can do not wrong. OK. I get that.

Open your eyes. To be so defensive of a computer company, you definitely have no life.

You attack a posters comment and not address one of the comments. Just another azzhole.

Good luck with your blind endeavors.

Logical statement.

Ladies and gentlemen, it's time once again for another episode of...

Spot the Looney.

A Looney, as you all know, is someone who posts comments on internet blog sites like this one, but with a twist! The Looney will complain loudly about whatever is on his mind, intentionally antagonizing and alienating other discussion participants. The Looney will also insult others while calling them names, and imply that they are mindless followers while they themselves repeat verbatim the Canon Of Troll. The most humorous Looney might even claim that someone who says something positive about a computer company in the face of this onslaught has 'no life', ignoring the irony that even most 4 year olds could grasp.
As a final insult, the Looney likes to curse his opponent for having to have 'the last word' while clearly baiting it, and not responding to his antagonistic litany as a trick to make you play his game.
Looneys seem most prevalent following a new product or service announcement from a company they loathe with envy. They come out after dark, to mask their seething facial sores and cold, dead eyes, and attempt to lure unsuspecting internet citizens into pointless, circular, futile arguments.
If you spot a Looney, understand that deep down, his is at his heart a broken, frightened child, bereft of the basic social skills that you and I take from granted. Simply saying hello in a civilized manner might be impossible for him after all his years of abuse, neglect, and his offensive, blinding odor.
For every Looney you spot, you'll get a Canadian dollar, so hurry, while the exchange rate is in the toilet!

I'm keeping my mouth shut.

Jan 15, 08 - 09:26 pm Comment from: ChrissyOne

Jan 15, 08 - 09:37 pm Comment from: LorD1776

ChrissyOne,

No ma'am. And I sure wouldn't wanna piss you off, either.

Jan 15, 08 - 10:46 pm Comment from: KenC

Wow, the rumors were so wrong on China Telecom and the 5 million iPhones. Who knew?

Jan 15, 08 - 11:18 pm Comment from: MPC Guy

>ChrissyOne: Well you wouldn't want to sound like an azzhole, would you?

Why is it okay for you and not for him. Women get all the the breaks these days.

Anybody pick up on a little irony that he goes straight to an NBC news house? Surely he talked to many other news outlets, but it would have been NO surprise if Jobs had shunned all NBC affiliated companies...

Is this the Jung effect at work already?

Jan 16, 08 - 12:39 pm Comment from: Steve516

I would not compare the MBA with the Cube. The Cube is expandable, upgradeable, and so forth. The MBA has no user serviceable parts beyond the ports. So, it is closer to a Mac Mini without the optical drive, but with a built in monitor, keyboard, and mouse (track pad).

I personally would like to see the standard mac keyboard available in black, and I would like to see back lighting as an option too... I'd pay $79.95 for that. And that being said, with all the moves towards black and aluminum, how about some black accessories. Like my iPhone dock and cable. Looks silly in white with the black and silver iPhone sitting in it.

And a black MightyMouse too. With a user cleanable scroll ball PLEASE.
