Apple’s lucky iOS 13 will finally fix of one of the most annoying things about the iPhone

“Apple’s next-gen iPhone lineup will likely have a few nice surprises in store for us, but believe it or not, I’m actually more excited about the release of iOS 13,” Yoni Heisler writes for BGR.

“While a handful of the more intriguing iOS 13 features have already leaked — with a redesigned home screen and a new dark mode being two prime examples — the reality is that much of what Apple has planned with iOS 13 remains a well-kept secret, at least for now,” Heisler writes. “There’s a new iOS 13 rumor which, if it pans out, should certainly improve the overall user experience.”

Heisler writes, “Citing an anonymous source, Max Weinbach took to Twitter yesterday and revealed that Apple is finally planning on fixing one of the more annoying aspects of the iPhone.”

MacDailyNews Take: Volume HUD (Head-Up Display) is that rather huge and obtrusive dialog box that pops up center screen when users turn up or turn down the volume on your iPhone, iPad, and/or iPod touch. It’s so annoying that some users will simply deal with whatever volume their device is set at, rather than adjust it, in order to avoid the Volume HUD from blocking their video.

    1. “…missing file system…”. Huh?

The Files app does manage files on an iPad Pro, and non-Pro iPad models, and iPhones. With iCloud, all files can be synced across all of your devices (unless you’re a chronic whiner, in which case the syncing feature does not work).

Steve Jobs personally guided UI and UX development of iOS. Here’s what he stressed in an interview: “…in every user interface study we’ve ever done […], [we found] it’s pretty easy to learn how to use these things ‘til you hit the file system and then the learning curve goes vertical. So you ask yourself, why is the file system the face of the OS? Wouldn’t it be better if there was a better way to find stuff?”

Seriously, you need to continue taking your anti-depressants on a daily basis, mate.

    2. Sean,
You must have a pathetic life if the highlight is waiting around each day for an opportunity to complain about Cook and Apple. Does this make you feel good? Powerful? Is it the highlight of your day? Do you troll other sites too? Maybe, given time, you can find a more productive line of work (or maybe not).

  1. Dark mode coming in another year and a less obtrusive volume notification are labeled as “groundbreaking”. Not much reason to wonder why people think Apple may have lost some of its former luster.

  2. you know come to think of it that box could be significantly smaller and at the top or bottom of the screen…..

However, this isn’t the kind of think I get myself in a wad for and certainly would not not adjust the volume because of it.

What I’d like to see is a few buttons come up when you touch the screen while watching a video- from left to right backup 1 min, 30secs 8sec, stop, advance 30sec, 1 min, 2 minutes. 🙂

  3. While moving/removing the volume level display would be nice, I’d MUCH rather have the ability to have empty spaces on my home screen anywhere I want. Why should all apps’ icons have to “float to the top”? What if I want a row of empty apps to create a visual separation? Why can’t I do that if I want to? Sometimes Apple is just too controlling…

  4. Seems a trivial thing to me. If Apple really wanted to fix something, to me being able to see what the ‘Other’ content cruft eating up GBs of storage on my iPhone is and allowing me to easily clear it off without having to restore my iPhone periodically would be YUGE.

  5. How about a cell data usage limiter, and an app data usage counter that rolls over every month, like Android has had for literally years?

Some rogue app or process consumed 2.5 GB in the hour it took to get to work, I’ve since discovered similar explosive and uncontrolled data usage over the last few days, eating up all my monthly data in the first 4 days of this bill cycle, and the stats are useless for tracking down what was responsible.

Like literally copy the UI from the Screen Time report. Usage Today, last 7 days, daily limits for apps, downtime, always allowed, etc.

  6. I’d like to have the option of making the side buttons a forward/reverse function for music tracks. Used to work this way but somewhere along the way volume adjustment took priority.

  7. How about the fact that most people my age can’t read the frickin’ time, see the signal strength or battery level. Why can’t that be adjusted??

Another nice thing to do would be offer a locked page for apps you don’t want kids or anybody else snooping through.

But wow….fixing the volume display. There’s a decade of refinement for ya!

  8. Actually, I only now realized that this is a problem, a true problem!
    (Irony off)

I, e.g., appreciate to have some feedback when I change my volume settings.

Move on, there is nothing to see here.

  9. iOS 13 will fix one of the most annoying things about the iPhone… A software update is going to move the volume or the wake buttons so they are not exactly opposite each other? That’s great!
