Ron Howard’s Imagine Documentaries inks first-look deal with Apple

“Brian Grazer and Ron Howard’s Imagine Documentaries has set a first-look pact with Apple to develop non-fiction features and series,” Cynthia Littleton reports for Variety.

“The deal suggests that Apple sees docu films and series as an important element of the video platform the tech giant has been working on for more than 18 months,” Littleton reports. “In September, Apple acquired global rights to the feature doc ‘The Elephant Queen,’ which will screen later this month at the Sundance Film Festival.”

“Apple has yet to disclose launch or distribution plans for its video content,” Littleton reports. “The company has a slew of original series in various stages of production and development.”

  1. The content creation business seems like a contradiction for penny pinching Tim Cook. Creation is outrageously expensive and thus far Cook has shown a propensity to cut corners at every opportunity.

    I simply don’t see Apple doing well in this space. They are way too late to the game and a company can easily sink billions trying to catch up or just compete.

    Despite Amazon raging a noble battle, Netflix has a lead that is virtually insurmountable, and to their credit, you can ALWAYS find something to watch… but it took them well over a decade to get here.

    1. How many times have we heard “ Apple is way too late to this game”. That is exactly what Apple does. That is their very successful approach.
      And by the way…. blah blah blah, Tim Cook is bad … blah blah blah. Show me another CEO who is heading a company that is earning almost a billion dollars a day profit!!!!!!! Great job Tim! Thank you! APPL shareholders are lucky to have you.

        Zero Von thinks when he screws up it is always somebody else’s fault..

        Zero Von bought Apple at all time high a couple months ago…while he hated the CEO and had no belief in the Company.
        Go figure that mindset.?!!
