“Apple has slashed the prices of certain iPhone models in China,” Luke Dormehl reports for Cult of Mac. “Chinese iPhone vendors reportedly received the word from Apple that they can offer discounts on the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max.”
“Of these, the biggest price reduction amounts to around $66 off the price off the iPhone XR,” Dormehl reports. “Other iPhones are receiving price cuts of around $59.”
“Whether the price cut will have a noticeable effect on its fortunes in China remains to be seen,” Dormehl reports. ” While a $66 reduction is pretty notable in a country where the average phone sells for a couple hundred bucks, the iPhone is still out of reach for many, many customers.”

MacDailyNews Take: Apple isn’t trying to sell iPhones to everyone. They only participate in the premium smartphone market, which they have long dominated and continue to dominate.
They now cost in China about what they cost in the U.S. My guess is component provides are also dropping, which will keep margins about the same.
This is the beginning of the end for Cook’s “Greed is Good” business model. He can’t continue to raise prices, but he will because he has no real CEO skills and greed is in his nature.
Until they don’t, (They only participate in the premium smartphone market)
Apple can have that attitude as much as they want, And investors can embrace it if they want, It looks like investors have rejected that attitude. Let’s face it, Apple simply did not expand their markets and services fast enough for wall street, They can decide to become Ibm or ford if they want, and investors can go elsewhere, and have. They’ll come back if Apple impresses.. Like hardcore computer users may return ie, if Apple decides to Update the Mac Pro… but there are alternatives. Meantime, $350 bil… Poof!

Recent communication w Apple contact… China government is confiscating iPhones from all employees. Once a status symbol, iPhones are now shunned.
How about updating the iPhone SE. I am not interested in a bigger iPhone even with reduced prices . An iPhone SE with the X treatment . iPhone SEX.
Apple is magnificent. They are now repositioning themselves for the Chinese New Year. That is like Xmas in the west. Next year is the year of the pig and that is a year of wealth. There is no better way to show your wealth than iPhone XR or XS Max 😁
iPhone Se-X is just another way for Tim’s pipeline to find it way to outer Uranus. Good for Tim, maybe, but not so good for you, unless you like that kind of thing, of course. Then you’ll want all the iPhone Se-X you can get. Sad to say the iPhone is too exxy – it justs costs too much money.
