Apple cuts current-quarter production plan for new iPhones by 10 percent

“Apple Inc, which slashed its quarterly sales forecast last week, has reduced planned production for its three new iPhone models by about 10 percent for the January-March quarter,” Reuters reports, citing Nikkei Asian Review. “Overall planned production volume of both old and new iPhones is likely to be cut to a range of 40 million to 43 million units for January-March period, from an earlier projection of 47 million to 48 million units, the Nikkei reported, citing one source familiar with the situation.”

Apple shares were up 1.3 percent at $152.70 in early trading on Wednesday.”

“As Chinese demand has faltered, Apple has increased focus on India, which recently overtook the United States as the world’s second-largest smartphone market,” Reuters reports. “Reuters reported last month that Apple will begin assembling its top-end iPhones in India this year through the local unit of Foxconn, citing a person familiar with the matter.”

  1. The media is supposed to report facts or news, instead the constantly attempt to manipulate the news and the facts and usually in a negative way.

Now there are times when the news is bad and should be reported as such, but far too often its speculation without facts and does more harm than good.

  2. Reality: stock is shit, products are shit, services are laughable, prices are a joke, sales are beginning to tank, CEO is a greedy, lying, incompetent.

Delusional reaction: Apologize for Cook and buy more stock.

  3. The Chinese New Year holiday starts shortly. Apple always cuts component orders and then production by about 10% at the start of every year in anticipation of the factories shutting down for a couple of weeks.

Think about it. A quarter is just under 100 days and the factories shut down for around ten days. Therefore they will lose approximately 10% of the normal capacity to build iPhones that quarter.

This has happened for many years and will happen next year and the year after that too.

Apple obviously is in panic mode as its X models aren’t selling as well as the iPhone 6 (and modest derivative 7 & 8 series). Apple tested the price sensitivity of its “premium” buyers by price gouging them with the double whammy of OLED and faceid all at once. Neither technology is compelling for most users. The X models, including the XR, do NOT provide a comfortable size or the affordability or superior performance compared to past iPhones, as proven by the sales crash. One would think this is predictable, as the Plus models don’t outsell the equivalent smaller iPhone.

Hence Apple is going all out on carrier sales for XR models and pushing trade-in deals in its own store. It’s not working. Next year Apple is going to have to wise up and offer more modestly priced phones. My prediction is that it will take Timmy 2 years to roll out a plastic 4″ rehash phone, and only after the XR model inventory piles up for a year will he begrudgingly offer a couple new color 8S models with practically no real change for the 2019 holidays.

I don’t feel bad that Timmy had to learn the hard way that Apple can’t survive by shunning the 90% of the world population that actually has to live within a limited budget.
