Apple’s 6.1-inch iPhone Xr looks set to become a huge blockbuster

“Respected analyst Ming-Chi Kuo thinks that the iPhone XR is going to be a massive smash hit for Apple — and it seems that everyone is being taken by surprise by how in-demand it is,” Luke Dormehl reports for Cult of Mac.

“In a recent note to investors, Kuo increased his estimate for iPhone XR shipments for the fourth quarter by 10 percent,” Dormehl reports. “Instead of 33 to 35 million iPhone XR units over the quarter, he now thinks Apple’s suppliers will ship out 36 to 38 million units.”

“Overall, Kuo think that Apple will ship up to 83 million iPhones over the quarter,” Dormehl reports. “That’s an increase from his previous estimate of 75 to 80 million units. During the same period last year, Apple sold 77.3 million iPhones.”

    1. Isn’t the XS small enough for you? It’s a fairly small phone and fits in small hands nicely because it’s so narrow. I don’t think Apple will ever make another SE sized phone because there’s just no market for a phone that small anymore. No other manufacturer is making any SE sized smartphones and that must be because there just isn’t enough demand.

      1. I think the fact that Therealspike has 5 5star votes already indicates that there is indeed demand. The SE sold a lot of units when the 8 and X got so big. And no, the XS isn’t small enough. My old 7 barely fits my hand. And I’m a guy. My 19 year old son’s hands are reach across his phone are even smaller.

      2. I would easily reply to you as : What a market opportunity! Asian hands and Indian hands are notabily smaller.

BTW I compared my 7 with the Xs the other day. It is barely larger. I want smaller. Do you hear me? 😉

        Smaller!

  1. With the trajectory of the Apple Watch, I kind of understand the reasoning behind why Apple is not focusing on smaller form factors. The new palm device seems interesting in the android world, but it doesn’t make any sense in the Apple ecosystem. The larger phones then also explain why they are EOLing the iPad mini, but I’m a little more skeptical of that decision. iPad mini is so perfect for kids and a lot of enterprise applications .

  2. I believe there will be an A12 XR SE class phone introduced in March. It will have a material effect on April -August sales numbers. And though at parity with the current phones in terms of processor, that will only last until Sept 2019. I believe a 5 inch display in a smaller that iPhone 8 form factor would be a huge it. My wife refuses to upgrade because the current phones are too big, other family members feel likewise. This is simply too big a demand to ignore.

  3. I’ve had my iPhone X for almost a year now, and it’s a gorgeous , very nice phone – maybe the best overall phone I’ve owned of literally them all. The camera is over the top nice, the 500 pictures I took on a recent 3-week trip are just stunning. All that said, I really miss the size of the SE that I had prior to the X and I am seriously considering buying a new one off Amazon for around $200 and selling my X – the Apple Watch is way more important to me overall and my Series 4 LTE will be here in around 2 weeks. If there were a new SE with the edge to edge display and a glass back for wireless charging – that would be the perfect phone for me!
