Apple Watch Series 4 battery-life can now do sleep-tracking plus all-day wear

“We’ve seen quite a revolution in health and fitness tracking over the past few years, with the Apple Watch playing a key role in that,” Ben Lovejoy writes for 9to5Mac. “”

“One thing I’ve never bothered with is sleep-tracking,” Lovejoy writes. “But as someone who has recently upgraded from the Apple Watch Series 3 to the Series 4, and for a while had two watches in the apartment, I noted Zac’s recent piece about this. Coincidentally, I was also sent a smart-pillow to test, which also claimed to do automatic sleep-tracking, so I tested that against Autosleep on my Apple Watch Series 3 for a few days.”

“I wore my Watch at night, then, when I woke, I took it off and put it on charge until I went to the office, typically about 45 mins after waking. I did that for four nights and found that, actually, that was enough to have the Watch comfortably make it through the whole day as well,” Lovejoy writes. “Sure, it can struggle when making a long-haul flight, when a day can be 20 hours or more, but for everyday (and night) use, the Apple Watch battery is right where I need it to be. A reader has confirmed the same is true for him on the Series 3.”

MacDailyNews Take: Apple Watch 4 seems to be better than Apple Watch 3 was for battery life, but either should do the all-day wear plus sleep-tracking trick – provided you set aside that 45-minute block of charging at some point the next morning.

  1. On Watch 3 after using it all day + overnight for sleep tracking the battery was still more than 2/3 charged and usually only required 20 minutes on the charger.

Watch 4 in and on hand today and I expect it to have even better performance.

Using the Sleep Pulse 3 app.

  2. Series 4
I run two apps together .. health and a kitsurfing specific tracking app. Almost for 4 hours each session.
And all regular other interactions .

Come home and can easly not charge overnight.
But if i dont..ill run out by mid day next day

APPLE WATCH SERIES 4 ROCKS !

  3. S4 Apple Watch: All day then all night with sleep++. I was at 53% this am when I put it on charger. Typically 50-60% battery left with 23 hrs of use. Less if I use it at the gym but never below 75%…

  4. I use AutoSleep, HeartWatch and Sleep++ to measure my sleep on WATCH Series 3 Cellular (not connected) then 4 hour morning/afternoon bike rides and all I have to do is charge it for a little over an hour when it’s no less than 40% in late afternoon. It’s then good to for another 24 hours using only 50-60% again.

  5. I’m getting a 4 in a week or so – a birthday gift from the wife and daughter. At 74 the first issue for me is falling – various meds can ca use them and I like the “Help I’ve Fallen. And Can’t Get Up” feature. Next will be the cardio when the ECG feature is available, hopefully with a PulseOx readout. Then will be the much needed Blood Glucose.

Toss in Time and Date and I don’t see a lot of other needs for me. It’s not for games and I don’t see watching a movie on it, so how hard will the battery be hit on a daily basis? (I don’t use the sleep app as I sleep with an autopap.)
