“Apple launched iOS 12 with much fanfare earlier this month but early adoption appeared sluggish. However, in the following weeks, iOS 12 adoption has actually outpaced iOS 11 now, according to data from Mixpanel,” Benjamin Mayo reports for 9to5Mac.
“iOS 12 is now installed on more than 50% of active iPhones, iPads and iPod touch devices,” Mayo reports. “It took iOS 11 [months] to reach this milestone; iOS 12 has achieved it in under twenty days,” Mayo reports. ” The positive reception from the community (with no showstopper iOS bugs hitting the headlines) surely must have helped accelerate adoption.”
“iOS 12 uptake will likely continue to be strong for the foreseeable future,” Mayo reports. “iOS 12.1 will include major new features like group FaceTime and more than 70 new emoji, which always help to incentivize people to upgrade.”

We don’t call Google’s mess “fragmandroid” for nothin’!
I’ve always found it interesting how Apple congratulates itself on quickly updating iOS versions on all their devices. It’s terrific that they are able to do it as quickly as they do. I guess if Apple doesn’t pat themselves on the back, no one else will.
However, look at Android’s OS massive fragmentation. Google offers no apologies that most older Android smartphones never get updated with a new OS. Google actually wears it as a badge of superiority. After all, look how much global mobile market share percentage Android OS has despite most Android smartphones not getting updated yearly. Consumers can’t get enough of Android smartphones as their global market share continues to grow. Clearly, no one cares if the Android OS platform is mostly fragmented. It won’t ever stop developers or consumers from using Android OS.
You won’t hear anyone whining or complaining how Android OS is a fragmented platform. You’ll only hear people whining and complaining about how expensive iPhones are. No one is praising Apple for having a non-fragmented platform. Apple surely isn’t getting praised for only having a 13% mobile market share. All I hear is analysts fretting about how Apple isn’t selling enough iPhones or gaining mobile market share. Honestly, I’ve never heard any analyst complain how awful Android OS is fragmented.
Waaahhh! iPhones are too expensive. Make them cheaper by any means possible. Fragmentation doesn’t matter to consumers.
I can assure you that having a non-fragmented platform is considered far less important by Wall Street investors than having dominant mobile market share. The same goes for privacy.
