Democrat cyber defenders are purging Android phones in favor of Apple iPhones

“The Democratic National Committee knows perhaps more than any other political body in America just how catastrophic a breach of its physical or digital defenses can be,” Thomas Brewster reports for Forbes. “With the midterm elections and concomitant online threats looming, the Democrats are keen to avoid another digital disaster. As part of improving the digital defences across the party, the DNC is trying to get rid of Android devices, ZTE in particular, following the U.S. intelligence communities warnings about the Chinese manufacturer. A previous Reuters report noted Huawei was getting much the same treatment. And the DNC is choosing Apple over Google, promoting iPhones across not just its own staff, but campaigns, committees and state Democratic bodies too.”

“That’s according to Bob Lord, the chief information security officer at the DNC. Lord, who was previously in the same role at tech giant Yahoo, told Forbes that one key reason for choosing iPhones over Androids was that Apple provided patches for security weaknesses quicker than Google’s myriad device manufacturers,” Brewster reports. “It’s little surprise DNC is favoring the iPhone. Apple has consistently tried to improve security on its flagship device and the latest iPhones come with some big updates.”

“One of the more significant new features across Apple’s XS, XR and Watch 4 devices is a chip-level protection,” Brewster reports. “According to Adam Donenfeld, iOS cybersecurity researcher at Zimperium, it’s ‘the most advanced mitiation which Apple has ever released.’ ‘It closes a big chunk of vulnerabilities which everyone used and makes exploitation more difficult,’ he added.”

  1. ““The Democratic National Committee knows perhaps more than any other political body in America just how catastrophic a breach of its physical or digital defenses can be,””

Just ask Trump. “Hey Russia if you’re listening………”

    1. It’s been determined the earth isn’t flat. I know, sometimes old beliefs are difficult to let go.

I recommend searching for Ben Franklin’s quote related to ignorance and stupidity.

      1. US agencies currently investigating Trump on Russia:

The Senate Select Committee on Intelligence
The Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime and Terrorism
The House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform
        The Senate Judiciary Committee
        Special Counsel Mueller (FBI)

The FBI began investigating Trump when he was a candidate in 2016. Several Trump campaign and Administration officials have been charged and are currently working with the special counsel Mueller. In addition, Trump’s ex-personal lawyer and the CFO of the Trump organization are also working with the special counsel.

        1. And none point to Russian collusion. Absolutely zero.

The defendant with the lengthiest sentence involved law breaking over 10 years ago having to do with personal financial matters. The case, again, has nothing to do with Russian collusion.

Another person lied about a conversation with the FBI and his sentence was 14 days. No federal crime is OK. I repeat, no federal crime is OK but again, the sentence has nothing to do with Russian collusion.

By the way, it seems you might need to know, “investigations” don’t equate with guilt. Got it BJ?

I still recommend looking at Benjamin Franklin’s quote. He has many others that you might find elucidating.

  2. Politicians as whole have no analytical skills. This is why they grab a single parameter to characterize a complex problem. This also applies to media people. They will try to ignore problems such as that presented here.

    1. “Politicians as whole have no analytical skills. This is why they grab a single parameter to characterize a complex problem.”

Which is why politicians always want to know “what do I get for that vote?”

  3. It sure doesn’t seem likely any large group will be dumping their Android smartphones for iPhones considering most of the people on the planet care almost nothing about personal privacy.

  4. I find it amazing that any politician would us an Android device over an iPhone. They should be prioritizing their security. Of course, they may be concerned their spouses could track them through Find My IPhone…
    Never mind. I get it.
