I disagree. eMo’s comment clearly has ironic meaning within the context of the hundreds of articles and comments about Dell, Mikey, and the Jobs Target strategy published here at MDN over the years. eMo’s comment may be useless in an academic discussion of capital allocation, but what’s actually true in real life doesn’t come from a catalog of definitions and facts.. it comes from the interplay of people’s emotional responses to what they think happened.

3. The whole trillion dollar things is nonsense and meaningless other then bragging rights. In a couple of months Amazon will blow past apple and these silly articles will go away.

   1. As I search, I conclude I’d like AAPL to reach $249 before the end of the year. This would mean the stock would have risen $100 this year…just about 60%. There’s about $20 more to-go.

      If it ends up higher, this would be more meaningful and I’d be likely to tip one more on New Years.

   1. We instinctively applaud an incumbent for good things that happen on his watch, and excuse him for bad things that happen on his watch.

      — Unless we are predisposed to dislike the incumbent, in which case the reverse happens. If something good happens, he’s eating off the gravy train, and if something bad happens, he’s asleep at the wheel.

      Funny how human nature plays out exactly the same way, across the centuries. Are all of us essentially soccer hooligans?

You come out with the concept of instinct, a largely inheritable and unalterable tendency of an organism to make a complex and specific response to environmental stimuli without involving reason and then apply it to another sliced up concept, (good and bad) a reasoned abstract. How amazing that you cannot envision all things having a good and bad pole, or potential. How do you do it, slice your mind up like that. How you discern that good thing scalpel that could I imagine save a life from the bad thing scalpel that I could imagine take a life is beyond me. It must be so wonderful to see the world that way, dividing, analyzing, separating, fragmenting into this is good this is bad. I find the capacity to do that well beyond me.

         And things, which fortunately can be used to describe an action as you seem to apply it, but falls short of the energetic manifestation that is better described as an event.

         And then to apply what are very clearly western statements to all of human nature. Wow. Such blind arrogance without any concern, awareness or consideration for other cultures and/or paradigms that make up human diversity.

         We may be essentially soccer hooligans but not only. Humans are much much more and less than that.

         Your whole post feels like an approach of a sharp razor used to slice and fragment the mind. I’ll side step that one thank you very much.

         1. My comments were insubstantial, dreamlike, bubbling up after a late-night talkfest with a wounded man. I’d like to know, have you any experience with IEDs or their effects on military personnel? If they are severely injured, do they harbour recriminations toward indigenous saboteurs or toward their own civilian leaders? Do their feelings differ before and after injury?

         2. Well dear Herself, being that I’m from an AFZ I have no experience with IEDs and I have to assume from the context that you are talking about an Improvised Explosive Device as opposed to an Intelligent Electronic Device or an Interlingua English Dictionary or an Interictal Epileptiform Discharge.

            When it comes to feelings it’s a bit like those good and bad things vs. all things can be good and bad, (they are not mutually exclusive) and it’s all pretty irrelevant when someone is under great pain or other great stress. Eventually however, some will use external items to substantiate their feelings and you’ll get a whole barrage of sentiments depending on the situation of the IED event and the resulting damage.

            Others will rely on their inner workings and maintain/gain or lose the insight that they are responsible for their feelings. Both approaches can be a benefit to healing but only one will have heart, and that depends on the person experiencing it directly, because only they know for sure.

            Feelings always change, part of the universal consistency but one can maintain a feeling while one is alive.

            I’ve heard about a test that was once used by the military where the physician asked recruits to show them their hands. Palms open is apparently a universal way of seeking cooperation. Palms down or closed as in a fist is apparently showing dominance and superior attitude. The closed fist of course is extreme a sign of anger. Now, according to this probably fictitious there was one group of recruits that would show the physician with one hand palm up the other hand palm down. That is not what the physician wanted and upon clarifying to the recruit to do it again, and turn the hands one way or the other the physician ended up with the other hand palm up and the other hand palm down. That’s why there were no quantum mechanics drafted in that particular war, but they did end up being good at improvising explosive devices.
