Evans writes, “So, now your Mac is online you want to turn it into a wireless router so all your other Macs, iPhones, iPads, and (potentially) connected doorbell can all get online. Not to mention your air quality monitor…”

Every once in a while there is a Ethernet connection in a hotel road. A 50’ Ethernet cable is always in my laptop bag. (Along with a 3 prong to 2 prong adapter)

I find that sharing a data connection via my iPhone is something I do much more than sharing a cabled internet connection via my laptop.
In hotels with slow or expensive WiFi and marginal GSM reception, I sometimes find that propping up or even gaffer taping my iPhone to the window will allow me to receive a connection which can in turn be shared with my iPad or MacBook, which can then be operated in a convenient place within the room.
I’ve very rarely been in the sort of situation described in that article. The last time must have been several years ago.
