“Steve Jobs’ widow and his sister are pushing back against a new blistering memoir written by the Apple cofounder’s daughter, Lisa Brennan-Jobs,” Jordan Valinsky reports for CNNTech. “Her book Small Fry ignited controversy because it portrays Jobs as a cold and sometimes inappropriate parent. But Laurene Powell Jobs and Mona Simpson, Jobs’ sister, say their memory of the late Apple cofounder ‘differs dramatically’ from Brennan-Jobs’ recollection.”
“They released a joint statement defending Jobs, which was originally published by Business Insider and obtained by CNN,” Valinsky reports. “‘Lisa is part of our family, so it was with sadness that we read her book, which differs dramatically from our memories of those times. The portrayal of Steve is not the husband and father we knew,’ they said. ‘Steve loved Lisa, and he regretted that he was not the father he should have been during her early childhood. It was a great comfort to Steve to have Lisa home with all of us during the last days of his life, and we are all grateful for the years we spent together as a family.'”
“During a family therapy session, Brennan-Jobs writes that she told a therapist that she felt lonely and wished her parents would say good night to her,” Valinsky reports. “Powell Jobs reportedly told her stepdaughter that her and Steve are ‘just cold people.'”
MacDailyNews Take: Mere words on a page. Contextless. How did Powell Jobs deliver that line? Our guess? Sarcastically, in response to a petulant child who’s being a PITA and conjuring up “issues” in order to fill a therapists’ hour and/or to hear herself talk. Just a guess.
“It’s not the first time Job’s widow, has spoken out about a negative portrayal of her late husband,” Valinsky reports. “She blasted the 2015 film Steve Jobs, written by Aaron Sorkin, as ‘fiction.'”

“Blasts”, like with a ray gun?
Journalists are a joke. Just report stuff without hype and exaggeration…unless of course you are such a boring read you have to resort to sensational headlines to get noticed.
It is not surprising that different people have different perspectives on Steve. Not only was he likely much different at home versus at work but, as with all people, Steve also evolved throughout his life. He was not the same person in his 50s as he was in his 20s.
Steve was apparently not a good father to his first child – really not a father at all based on the accounts that I have read. If those accounts are true, he denied paternity for many years and failed to provide child support. I do not condone those actions and I am not trying to excuse them, but I can understand his failures as a human being. Steve appeared to grow into a better human being as he matured and married later in life. As with all human beings, the good is mixed in with the bad — each each day you try to get a little better.
As an outsider, I will likely never know the full truth about Steve Jobs. Each person has their own perspective, and it is all blended together and filtered through his legend as an Apple founder, then at NeXT and Pixar, then back at Apple starting in the late 1990s where the legend really developed.
Not the first time an industrial genius is not a good parent/husband. Hope the daughter finds peace.
Powell-Jobs is just your typical Trump -hating, self-righteous liberal that supports Illegal immigration and bashes the rich for not doing enough to stop the farce that is “climate change.”
All while she’s steaming along on that fossil-fuel-burning yacht that Steve paid for. Let Lisa have her moment. Her experience wasn’t yours, Lauren.
Steve was a prick, that’s well documented. As an employee you were to put the Company first and work hard to keep it that way. If you fucked up,well….”You’re Fired!”

She was the product of a one-night stand, it didn’t go well. But she and her hippy mom got millions out of it. A Booty call kid.
That doesn’t mean she deserved to be treated like crap from her father, who was a willing participant in that one night stand. Jobs’ treatment of this girl is not defensible.

As for Lisa, of course she has a different opinion and take on her father that people that he wanted to impress. From what I have heard of the book, she said she loved her father even with the way he treated her.

I still say the best movie about Jobs was Pirates of Silicon Valley. Was a TNT movie I think. Best one, I think!
