10 magical productivity tips for Mac

“It’s Friday,” Jonny Evans writes for Computerworld. “You’re a few hours away from your weekend and you probably have a lot to get through, so here’s a small collection of tips that should help you get things done a little faster.”

“I repeat this in every collection because it’s so useful: Tap Command-Space whenever you want to find something on your Mac. Tap Command-Space whenever you want to get a currency conversion or a quick sum. Tap Command-Space to open an application. Tap it, and then start typing the item, currency, sum or application name. You should see it appear in the Spotlight search window you just opened,” Evans writes. “Select it (if it isn’t already selected) and hit Return (or take a note of the answer to your question which you should see in the bar). Simple. Fast. Effective.”

MacDailyNews Take: We hate Command-Space as we often invoke it while typing quickly. To disable it: System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts > Spotlight and uncheck the box for “Show Spotlight Search ⌘Space.”

“If you find you copy and paste between documents, websites and other sources of information then you probably get a little riled that the Mac’s default behavior is to paste the text with all the formatting (including URL’s) intact. It can mess up the appearance of the document you’ve spent the rest of the week working on, and means you have to spend time fixing the problem,” Evans writes. “It really doesn’t need to be this way – you can make a small change in System Preferences so that whenever you paste something into any good app, the formatting will default to what is used in the destination document.”

MacDailyNews Take: Some of these might that some relearning/retraining, but there’re bound to be one or two that you could use to boost your Mac productvity!

    1. Thanks to Pipeline you have NO IDEA when a new Mac Pro will appear.

Pipeline allowed the Mac Pro to rot.

Pipeline allowed the Mac Pro become a laughing stock.

Pipeline allowed pros leave Apple and head on over to Windows.

All because Pipeline doesnt care about the Mac.

Pipeline does not care about macOS.

Apple will never care about the Mac as long as Pipeline is CEO.

      That is beyond dispute.

      1. Funny thing though….Pipeline Tim just took Apple over the $1 Trillion mark.

I’m also waiting for a new Mac Pro but that doesn’t force me into being a turd and making sweeping untrue statements.

        1. Ah, so you admit that all you care about is your stock valuation. So if Cook completely killed the Mac line and was able to quadruple the services sales to more than make up for it, you’d be happy?

        2. No, tweaker simply said that Apple is prospering financially under Cook’s leadership. He also said that he is waiting for a new Mac Pro.

He did not say that he wanted the Mac Pro killed or that he would trade it for more services revenue. You made all of that up. How can anyone trust you or debate things with you when your immediate reaction is to spout total falsehoods? I grow more disgusted with you every day, SS.

        3. I laugh, absolutely laugh at all the drooling morons who 1 star my comments. Blithering idiot fan boys show their idiocy time and time again. That is ALL that Pipeline has, the support of drooling fan boys.

  1. I use Print To File almost all the time. It is one of my favorite features. Many years ago I would print out in hard copy my receipts, orders, rebates, etc. Now I use Print to File and simply store the files in my appropriate folders. Made it so much easier to find and maintain records. My 2 cents worth.

  2. Tip #2 – Pasting using the destination format.
You don’t need to change the System Preference.

    Just paste with Command-Option-Shift-V.
That gives me the option to quickly decide which way I want to paste.
After you do it a few times, your fingers can do it without even thinking about it.

  3. Let’s be fair here.. Pipeline is reaping the benefits to STEVE JOBS decisions.. So far, I’m not impressed with most of Pipeline’s decisions and his POOR execution.
