“A federal jury in California has awarded Canadian patent licensing company WiLan Inc $145.1 million in damages against Apple Inc for patent infringement, according to a court filing on Wednesday,” Reuters reports.
“The jury in San Diego determined that versions of Apple’s iPhone infringed two WiLan patents relating to wireless communications technology, WiLan, a unit of Quarterhill Inc, said in a statement,” Reuters reports.
“Apple confirmed it plans to appeal,” Reuters reports. “The company earlier rejected claims of infringement in pre-trial filings.”

Well it looks like Canada’s tech industry has now figured out where the money is.
All they had to do was follow the lead of the U.S. patent trolls.
So is a US court guilty of feeding your innate xenophobia? How galling.
I guess they first had to figure out how to patent it , then sell the patent to someone with money to fight for it and only then to figure out where the money is.
I would say Apple learned this IP theft in China, but it’s not true, as Steve Jobs was proud of how great artist steal, so must come from him.
I’m sure any top exec at could ApplePay that no worries.
Calling WiLAN a patent troll is rich . For years they pumped money into R&D and got burnt by the bubble, and IP theft, so now they try to protect things they built, and also acquired.
If you think they’re trolls, than you also must think Apple is too, cuz they’re suing Samsung, to protect what they built, and acquired!
