Apple says new MacBook Pro keyboard won’t fix sticky key issue

“Hoping Apple’s refreshed MacBook Pro — just announced today — would include a keyboard that can’t be damaged by a little dust?” Sean Hollister reports for CNET. “(Seriously: There’ve been multiple lawsuits now.)”

“Sadly, while the new 2018 MacBook Pro does have an updated third-generation keyboard,” Hollister reports, “Apple tells CNET it doesn’t include any new engineering or tweaks to address the sticky key issue.”

“Instead, the third-generation keyboard’s tweaks are about making it quieter,” Hollister reports. “Technically, Apple has admitted only that ‘a smaller percentage of the keyboards in certain MacBook and MacBook Pro models’ have demonstrated the sticky key issue. If you buy one, you may likely never have that problem. ”

    1. Well, I just ordered a 2014 MBPro refurb from MacOfAllTrades two days ago. I wasn’t about to buy Apple’s keyboard disaster and pay new-product prices for it, and today’s announcement that the keyboard isn’t fixing the sticky key problem is icing on the cake.

      For just under $1600 I got a 2.8ghz i7, 16gb ram, 512gb SSD and a one-year warranty.

$1200 cheaper than today’s 15 inch 2.6ghz i7 with the same memory and ssd.

  1. This company really is becoming a piece of garbage like all the others have I have a 2017 Mac Pro and the keyboard sucks ass. A key gets stuck the F key gets stuck, just damn sad. Who in their right mind would buy one of these machines that were released today with a shit ass keyboard.

  2. This is NOT what a premium brand does.

A). Apple has already admitted the currently shipping keyboards have a problem. Until a couple of weeks ago, they were charging customers something like $800 to fix THEIR problem.

B). Apple ships new models that do not address the keyboard issue, by their own admission.

So when your away from home, perhaps on a lengthy stay, you can rest assured that your keyboard will be covered when you get back.

Why does Apple do this? Because they can…. they have apologists!

    1. “This is NOT what a premium brand does.”

Exactly right. After all the feel good news today and now this. Premium priced ticking time bomb baked in. Unbelievable.

Until I read this article, I was going to pull the trigger today. Now thinking the discontinued 2015 model with sturdy keys and ports is looking better …

        1. I think tamponista Applecynic and his bosom buddy GoeB are the same sad sack of silly sausages.

As for your defense of silly spelling.. “defendors” should be defenders. I mean, derrrrrr!

        2. Yes, you will always be stupid, applecynic. You describe yourself so well: putz, tampon eater, denfedor… the biggest derrrrr this side of dum fuq.

so fuq you, AC. Fuuuuqqqqq UUUUUU, as you say, you will always be stupid. At least we can count on you for consistently perfect descriptions of yourself each and every time.

        3. Oh look! A pudding contest! Love a good pissing contest.
Remember dummy, the urinal is not a candy bowl, and that’s not a big white mint. Don’t eat it! Darwin’s not ready for you yet. Or maybe he is… have you reproduced?

        4. You have to stop using MDN’s lack of editing as an excuse. Plenty of people can type and spell correctly without making as many mistakes as you continue to make. While I do not believe you are stupid it is clear you are not nearly as intelligent as you pretend to be. Intelligent people can articulate their thoughts without the need for editing. Now, find the mistake I made on purpose in this comment.

        5. “The mistake you made is believing I give a damn about spelling without editing while typing with my thumbs.”

Very strange how typing with your thumbs only results in spelling and grammar mistakes.

        6. “PS- I don’t pertend to be intelligint. But thanks for noticing.”

You do pretend to be intelligent. As another poster commented you pretend to be an expert on virtually everything and “render a definitive judgment on every issue”.

Don’t lie to me and say you aren’t pretending to be far more intelligent than you are. Pretending you’re an expert on all things is what you do.

    2. It is really getting impossible to read any post from applecynic or GoeB. Is there *any* topic or issue about which you two are not experts? You are always anxious to render a definitive judgment on every issue…you must know absolutely frigging everything.

And, of course, anyone who dares to disagree with you are lemmings, defenders, apologists…ad infinitum. Anything that you cannot refute, you stoop to labeling, disparaging, and dismissing out of hand. You two are truly two grumpy old men unable to grasp the concept of change.

        1. “outrageous by defending an outrageous position.”

That is exactly the whole point in a succinct nutshell. Doesn’t see it, never will …

      1. “read any post from applecynic or GoeB.”

Speaking in absolute terms again. Even a broken clock is right two times a day. And guess what, you are free not to read the posts.

“You are always anxious to render a definitive judgment on every issue…”

        And you don’t? LOL.

“And, of course, anyone who dares to disagree with you are lemmings, defenders, apologists…”

Simply not true. You may disagree until the cows come home that’s healthy debate. But you better be right. Judging by your posts you proclaim everything as elitist fact, particularly when it comes to Apple.

        “you stoop to labeling,”

I seem to recall your political name calling and “labeling” of conservatives, the president and all those deplorables in flyover country. Practice what you PREACH …

    1. On the other side of the coin, I have disabled &/or wrecked a number of keyboards with wine, coke and cookie crumbs, though not in the last 5 years.

      Late learner.

      Goes with the territory.

  3. Fixing the new MBP’s keyboard would have no doubt resulted in even more delays and Apple is already Abysmal Delays Central. (Apparently all the money in the world can’t buy timely updates nor attention to all product lines nor happy customers.)
