Apple registers several new Mac and iPad models in Eurasia

“Apple has registered new tablets and Macs with the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) this week, indicating that refreshes could be on the horizon,” Tim Hardwick reports for MacRumors. The filings, uncovered by French website Consomac, are legally required for any devices with encryption sold in Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia.”

“The five Mac model numbers are A1931, A1932, A1988, A1989 and A1990, indicating two distinct ranges,” Hardwick reports. “The last three numbers may relate to expected refreshes for the 13-inch MacBook Pro (with and without Touch Bar) and the 15-inch MacBook Pro, while the first two could reference a refreshed 12-inch MacBook and a potential replacement for the aging MacBook Air, which Apple has been gradually phasing out. ”

“The five new iPad model numbers are harder to decipher,” Hardwick reports, “but Apple is expected to launch new models of iPad Pro later this year featuring slimmer edges, a faster processor, a custom Apple-built GPU, and a TrueDepth camera with support for Face ID.”

  1. Oh how I hope Apple has learnt their lesson about making these laptops sealed, glued and soldered appliances. Apple buyers expect quality, durability and longevity for their computers. Most pros also want computers that can be tweaked once or twice over their lifetime.

    1. Seeing as how they’re selling decent numbers of Macs fairly consistently, I’d guess the lesson they’ve learned is “CONTINUE TO DO MORE OF THE SAME!” Anyone who thinks otherwise hasn’t been paying attention to the Mac world.

      1. “CONTINUE TO DO MORE OF THE SAME!”

So upgrades are more of the “SAME?” What you know is you don’t know and continue to peddle the same Mac HATE.

“Anyone who thinks otherwise hasn’t been paying attention to the Mac world.”

LOOK in the mirror, pal …

        1. He said that the existing models are good enough to sell in large numbers and expand Mac market share. That may be faint praise, but it is hardly Mac HATE.

        2. Hey brainless, I know what he said in his post. The”HATE” comment has accurred for years meaning his posts have called for Macs not to be upgraded and replaced with iPads. Your’re not paying attention as usual. You’re only interested in anal put downs of my posts one at a time. F*ck off! …

      2. It’s a dangerous game alienating your core followers for the sake of building your devices like fashion accessories that get replaced often.

I find it absolutely astounding that Apple has millions of customers who desperately want to use their software, but are justifiably reluctant to buy products new because of the state of the hardware. They’ve been letting the platform stagnate due to their own mismanagement.

  2. Desperately need to either
    1. Take huge prices cuts in their SSD prices or
    2. Offer a medium level laptop with a fusion drive option.
Bumping any MacBook HD past 512 GB makes Apple laptop prices absolutely exorbitant. That should not be in 2018. Give me the option of Fusion drives or SSD.

  3. I would think a MacBook Pro “Classic” would be a huge seller to corporate fleet managers like me who dislike the 2016-17 models and who (also like me) have gotten very poor feedback from the users to whom we’ve assigned these models.
A MBP “Classic” based on the 2015 with all the classic ports, no touchbar, perhaps swap out one of the TB2/miniDP ports for one TB3/USB-C port, and maybe a minor processor upgrade, then sell the crap out of them to those of us who haven’t swallowed the Apple B.S. of “thinner is better,” and “less is more.” Less is usually less, it turns out, unless by “more” they mean “more money.”
(BTW: 30-year Mac user, Mac super fan for the first 27-28 of those years.)

  4. Dear Apple, your customers are sick of Johnny’s emaciated portless designs. These computers might be great for the coffee shop poseur but they aren’t fit for purpose as professional computers.

I preferred the Jobs’ Apple at least it was run by someone who had a clue…
