“Microsoft is rolling out subtle changes to Office 365 to make work a little easier for its millions of customers,” Heather Kelly reports for CNBC.
“The cluttered control bar (Microsoft calls it a ribbon) on the top of web-version of Word has been slimmed down to just one line. The same new bar will appear in Outlook next month,” Kelly reports. “Microsoft is holding off on slimming down PowerPoint, Excel and other Office 365 apps until it can do more research. It’s walking a fine line between offering simplicity to casual customers and angering power users.”
“Microsoft even redesigned Office’s icons with new colors and more contrast. Word will be the first to get a makeover, but all Office icons will get a fresh coat of paint over the summer,” Kelly reports. “Even though Microsoft is focused on the subscription-based Office 365, Microsoft sill makes the old fashioned version — Office 2019 is due out later this year. Classic Office doesn’t change or update with regular downloads, aside from the occasional security patch.”

I’m still using Office 2011. I see people with the Office 365 Mac version and I cringe at the ribbon. On Windows I still don’t get how to navigate office at all since there are no menus.
I don’t do Windows, Office, streaming or subscriptions.

it is very stupid in my opinion for both Apple and Microsoft to kill off full, always visible, user-manageable toolbars. Apple has interfaces as bad or worse than Microsoft’s atrocious ribbon. why hide frequently used commands? it just makes the user interface less efficient.
Right you are. As painful as the stupid software activation process is, a full standalone version of Office 2016 cannot be beat. Pages and Numbers are weak attempts at substitution
I got a free copy of 2011 for being a beta tester and use Word. I have to share docs with the other 90% of the computing world so Apple’s proprietary Pages format is a killer.
And I can open the occasional Excel spreadsheet natively.
Otherwise Numbers (far more intuitive than Excel) and Keynote (far superior to PowerPoint) meet my other needs.
I still miss WordPerfect from my Windows days (total control over text with all the codes visible – makes Word a joke still), but I get by.
My company is in the process of forcing us to switch to Office 365, which finally means I can use my Mac for works that’s been good, but I am getting REALLY horrible battery life all of a sudden on my watch and to a lesser extent my iPhone.
This happened just as I updated to 11.4…. can anyone tell me which is causing this? I used to put my watch on its charger when I went to sleep, with 20% charge still there. No it dies before I start my commute home.
