“Lizzy Caplan has joined the cast of the upcoming Apple series ‘Are You Sleeping,'” Joe Otterson reports for Variety. “The series is based on the novel of the same name by Kathleen Barber and explores people’s obsession with true-crime stories and the recent boom in podcasts dedicated to probing unsolved and disputed cases.”
“Octavia Spencer was previously announced as playing the series lead,” Otterson reports. “Apple has ordered a 10-episode first season.”

Be careful about predicting winners on this site. I worked in the business of developing and producing television series for 30 years. Had my fair share of successes as an executive, but making a really good television show is really hard, even with the most expensive and high priced talent. Sounds good and is good are two very different things. The executives at Apple in charge of this area are spending big and betting big. I hope they hit a few homers in the process. Nobody spends bigger than Netflix and they are having a very hard time producing “Hits” at the moment. The talent pool is stretched very thin at the moment. Like everything Apple I’m rooting for their team to execute and give us something worthy of our time on Apple TV!
Interesting that Apple are putting so much effort into shows for what was once very commonly known as the “idiot box”. So this is where you’re at, Tim and co.?
