“Tim Cook doesn’t think tariffs are going to make your iPhone more expensive. The Apple CEO said Monday he didn’t expect a full-blown trade war to break out and dismissed the notion that the company’s flagship device would be subject to tariffs,” Julia Horowitz reports for CNN Tech. “‘I don’t think the iPhone will get a tariff on it,’ Cook told CNN’s Laurie Segall in an exclusive TV interview.”
“Cook, who visited President Donald Trump to discuss trade in April, also said he was ‘very optimistic’ that the United States would not escalate its trade fight with other countries, adding that ‘no one will win from that,'” Horowitz reports. “The Apple CEO’s remarks come as the United States stokes trade tensions on multiple fronts.”
“Early last week, the Trump administration said it will move forward with $50 billion worth of tariffs on Chinese goods as punishment for intellectual property theft. China has pledged to retaliate with $50 billion in tariffs of its own on items like cars, planes and soybeans,” Horowitz reports. “So far, countries have not threatened duties on Apple’s smartphone directly. And since the iPhone is imported to America as a finished product, Apple does not have to worry about US tariffs on many Chinese components, according to Virginia Howard, a supply chain analyst at Gartner.”

No one with any sense expects a trade war (unless it advances their political agenda…in which case they are praying for one.)
No one with any *sense* wants a trade war. I don’t know of anyone that is “praying” for one. I believe that this is a case in which you are projecting your sordid mindset on others because it is what *you* would do to gain political advantage at any cost. Some people actually care about the welfare of this country and the rest of the world more than stupid partisan political power plays and personal aggrandizement.
Getting back to your narrative, it is unclear it Trump has any sense, in this regard. He claims that trade wars are “easy to win” and that the U.S. has “nothing to lose.” Perhaps that is just his normal negotiating spewage or, perhaps, that is simply another example where Trump says half-a-dozen different things and then later decides which one he actually meant – whichever one is to his advantage, of course, and makes him look better. Because that is all that counts to him.

And you have to be an even bigger idiot to act like the Democrats wouldn’t seize ASAP on any bad economic news as proof of poor trade negotiations.
So take your petty uninformed argument elsewhere. You lost all (unregistered) credibility as soon as you flew the “Some people actually care about the welfare of this country and the rest of the world more than stupid partisan political power” flag unless you call Obama’s Iran deal, Clinton’s uranium bye-off, Kerry’s meddling and the entire Mueller (still got no evidence) investigation your idea of “bettering the welfare of this country”.
The only thing Democrats have done lately to “better our welfare” is to pump billions more into food stamps instead of creating jobs.
