Sony PlayStation 4 cumulative sales 2.5 times greater than Microsoft’s Xbox One

“It’s no secret that the PlayStation 4 has been outselling the Xbox One during this console generation,” Brandon Hill reports for HotHardware. “Both consoles launched at around the same time way back in 2013, but Sony long ago proved that it had the upper hand this time around. In fact, Microsoft gave up trying to compete in the “numbers game” and stop disclosing sales figures for the Xbox One back in 2015.”

“Now, thanks to statements made by Electronic Arts official during the company’s investor conference call, we’re getting a better idea of just how badly the PlayStation 4 is clobbering the Xbox One,” Hill reports. “EA CFO Blake Jorgensen made the following statement: ‘We expect sales of current-generation consoles from Microsoft and Sony to continue to be strong, with the installed base growing to 130 million consoles by the end of calendar 2018 from 103 million at the end of calendar 2017.'”

“Now if we step, back, Sony announced back in early January that it had sold a total of 73.6 million PlayStation 4 console through Q4 2017,” Hill reports. “With some simple math, that puts Xbox One lifetime sales [through Q4 2017] at 29.4 million.”

  1. I’ve owned both the current PS4 and XBOX One S. I’ve found to like the XBOX more as I’ve only used the PS4 a handful of times in my ownership. However, I’ve relinquished both since I’ve out grown them. Perhaps when the new generations are out, ill concierge another one. Til then, I’ll stick to my many, many Apple products. Perhaps that’s why I had no interest in either units over the last year.

    1. You mean to tell me you have absolutely NO videos games whatsoever on ANY device that you own???

      Somehow I think you’re a hypocrite and a liar…

I would be willing to bet you have some sort of video games on your phone or tablet at the least.

  2. I am happy to reveal that I am experiencing schadenfreude unflinchingly and apologetically because Microsoft stole Apple’s OS and nearly killed Apple.

  3. Give it a rest MDN do you really feel a need to mock Microsoft all the time

I have a PlayStation 4 and Xbox one they are both great each ones has exclusive titles the other does not.

Posting these articles that has nothing to do with Apple just to get clicks is pathetic.

Use and enjoy the platform you enjoy, or better yet get them all and enjoy them all.

  4. I thought genius, Einstein-level Indians such as Nadella were supposed to be good for the US econ and US tech companies. Looks like they are getting their lunch eaten by competitors as usual. Xbox – the Zune of the gaming world. No one wants that junk. Thanks to the bald-headed looter running the show now.
