“Downloading watchOS software to your Apple Watch is a tremendously slow process,” Christian Zibreg writes for iDownloadBlog. “It can take anywhere between half an hour to an hour or more to send a watchOS software update to your wrist. Because it’s such a sluggish experience, I try to update my watch only when I’m positive I won’t be using it for a few hours, like right before I’m about to hit the bed.”
“The exact amount of time needed to send the installer to your wrist depends on the size of the watchOS software update you’re installing, the model of your Apple Watch (newer models utilize better processors that handle common operations faster), network interference and the many factors that influence wireless data transfer,” Zibreg writes. “Wouldn’t it be great if there were a way to dramatically speed up the utterly slow process of sending the watchOS installer files to your Apple Watch?”

And why wouldnt Apple Inform customers of this simple trick ?
So this “trick” only speeds up the process of getting the update from iPhone to WATCH – reducing that time from approx 9 minutes to ??? minutes.
But the update the WATCH is going to perform is still going to take 30 – 90 minutes depending on the WATCH and size of the update … it’s not the 9 minutes loading the installer that irritates me, it’s the 30 – 90 minutes of installing the update that irritates me!
I read the complaints and chuckle. 30 to 90 minutes for an OS upgrade…oh, the pain and indignity of it all. People have become far too pampered and coddled. Try going back to the days of 140KB floppy disks or 14.4 kbps modems, then cry me a river. Wired and wireless network throughput and removable media storage has always lagged the ability of software engineers to radically increase the size of operating systems and applications.
The Apple Watch is a freaking computer on your wrist that provides Dick Tracey-like functionality. So, it takes an hour or two to upgrade the OS once in a while?! The option is to buy a Samsung Gear or other Android-based watch and never get a frigging upgrade.
Is it that simple? Why doesn’t Apple provide a helpful guide to all this and more?
