In his newly released book, A Higher Loyalty, fired FBI director James Comey writes about President Trump while also addressing other aspects of his career, including his strong objection to Apple’s (and Apple’s followers’) encryption efforts.
“When Apple and Google announced in 2014 that they would be moving their mobile devices to default encryption, by emphasizing that making them immune to judicial orders was good for society, ‘it drove me crazy,’ he writes,” Marcus Baram reports for Fast Company. “He goes on to lament the lack of ‘true listening’ between tech and law enforcement, saying that ‘the leaders of the tech companies don’t see the darkness the FBI sees,’ such as terrorism and organized crime.”

“President Trump’s views on the issue remain unclear,” Baram reports. “During the FBI/Apple’s standoff over the San Bernardino shooter’s iPhone, Trump denounced the company and called for a boycott. But while other top cabinet officials, like Attorney General Jeff Sessions, have been outspoken about the need to ‘overcome encryption,’ the president hasn’t said much on the subject.”

James Comey is all about James Comey. He met the President, all of what, 3 times? He stretches every aspect of those out in an attempt to fill pages to sell a book.
He then goes off into all sorts of topics, because, you can’t write a book on 3 meetings so hey, let’s throw Apple in there. Everyone likes to read about Apple!

All at Trump’s request. The end result, Trump had Comey fired when he was at some conference. Comey first found out about it through cable news.
Trump then went on to meet with Russians in the white house with NO Americans other than Trump bragging to them how the Russian investigation is a cloud lifted.
Although, I think you meant Comey was a fool when you called him an idiot, Comey is indeed in the literal or strict sense (in so far as the word shares the same root as idiosyncratic) an idiot. He’s not stupid nor dishonourable nor dishonest, but there is no predictable relation between his thinking and his actions. This is patent, not only in his present behavior in his TV interview and book in relation to Trump, but also in his handling of Clinton’s emails (clumsy both in execution and his present explanations), and, of course, his behavior in relation to privacy (the constitutional right to which he seems to have very little grasp), and his desire for a backdoor to Apple’s iPhones.
The mind boggles as to how such a loose cannon ascended to the heights of public service, although he has provided us all some amusement in first delivering us a congenital liar and incompetent as President, and then remarking that the imcompetent’s fingers aren’t as small as you might expect!

The Fourth Amendment To The US Constitution
“The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.”
Nothing in the Fourth Amendment says anything about backdoors being required in anything. It never will. Technological ignorance is certainly part of Mr. Comey’s problem. But clearly, he’s no fan of the mandates of the US Constitution. Good riddance.
Oh and of course, Mr. Comey challenged this constitutional amendment as well. 😛

No US citizen can be compelled to unlock or decrypt their technological data. Deal with it.
