“A new web standard being recommended for adoption would open the way for both Face ID and Touch ID to be used to login to websites,” Ben Lovejoy reports for 9to5Mac.
“The API, known as WebAuthn, allows existing security devices – like fingerprint readers, cameras and USB keys – to be used for website authentication,” Lovejoy reports. “Firefox supports WebAuthn from today, with Chrome and Edge slated for support within the next few months, reports Engadget.”
“There’s as yet no word on Safari, but with all current and recent iPhones and iPads offering either Face ID or Touch ID, and the latter supported on the MacBook Pro too, this would be tailor-made for Apple,” Lovejoy reports. “It cannot be used with other browsers without Apple’s support.”

Face ID is incredible. Light years ahead of Android and works for me 99.9% of the time. I do worry however whether iPhone users that are stuck on older models which are well established with the old home button, will cope ok with the new technology.
They’ll probably cope as well as the people who moved to the iPhone X
Face ID is the lone reason I would upgrade to a new iPad from my 2017 iPad Pro 17 inch. Every time I have to use TouchID I feel as though it is an imposition after using Face ID on my iPhone X. It is already used in my banking, investment, and some other apps. Such a pleasure.
Immediately loved the web login smoothness of FaceID.
y bank already allows me to login with my Apple Face ID. So simple and so cool.
