Apple CEO Cook offers ‘sympathy and support’ after YouTube shooter opens fire

Apple CEO Tim Cook has offered condolences after crazed YouTube shooter Nasim Najafi Aghdam opened fire in a courtyard at YouTube’s headquarters Tuesday afternoon. YouTube is a Google subsidiary. Google itself is a subsidiary of Alphabet Inc.

“The night before Nasim Aghdam opened fire in a courtyard at YouTube’s headquarters Tuesday afternoon, Mountain View police found the San Diego woman sleeping in her car,” The Mercury News reports.

“She had been reported missing by her family in Southern California, and her father Ismail Aghdam told police she might be going to YouTube because she ‘hated’ the company. Police called the family at 2 a.m. Tuesday to say she’d been found and that everything was ‘under control,’ her father said,” The Mercury News reports. “But hours later, his daughter was dead of a self-inflicted gunshot after shooting three people and causing an afternoon of terror at YouTube’s headquarters.”

From everyone at Apple, we send our sympathy and support to the team at YouTube and Google, especially the victims and their families. — Tim Cook

U.S. President Trump also tweeted his support:

Was just briefed on the shooting at YouTube’s HQ in San Bruno, California. Our thoughts and prayers are with everybody involved. Thank you to our phenomenal Law Enforcement Officers and First Responders that are currently on the scene. – President Trump

“It appears Aghdam controlled multiple YouTube channels, including one with videos of her speaking Farsi,” NBC Bay Area reports. “Aghdam posted videos about an array of topics including hand art and animal rights.”

“The NBC Bay Area Investigative Unit has also learned the license plate on a car towed from YouTube’s campus Tuesday is registered to Aghdam,” NBC Bay Area reports. “In 2014, she posted a video on YouTube of what appears to be the same car, stating that it was vandalized by ‘anti-vegans’ because a bumper sticker said, “’meat is murder.'”

“Aghdam, who referred to herself as a ‘vegan bodybuilder’, also frequently posted about animal rights and even held a funeral for her rabbit,” The Daily Mail reports. “She also posted videos of animal abuse, including a dog being boiled alive, as well as pictures of herself in evening gowns posing in front of fake painted backgrounds.”

“The woman who opened fire at YouTube’s offices in California on Tuesday raged against the video-sharing service for what she saw as censorship of her clips on her niche channel covering vegan issues, animal rights, Persian culture and fitness,” The Telegraph reports.

“Ms Aghdam’s family say she was ‘angry’ with the company and had complained about YouTube supposedly censoring her videos and cutting her ad revenue,” The Telegrah reports. “They had reported her missing to police and warned them she ‘might do something’ after officers spotted her sleeping in a car in Mountain View hours before the shooting.”

MacDailyNews Take: Our condolences as well to those injured and their families.

  1. I didnt know and am surprised that a company as controversial as youtube allowed a Non employees to go to the main building. This youtube HQ is not like walking into a mall, they should have security gates. OH well, condolences to the people who lost their lives

      1. What kind of heartless creature are you?

Should you be rushed to an emergency room in critical condition, should we withhold condolences until you die?

Condolences to the injured and affected families is always the right thing to do.

      2. … condone her drastic actions, but YouTube has been screwing most of the channel owners with their censorship and demonetization antics. It’s just a shame Google got their evil hands on it.

  2. Except that didn’t Google sort of do this to themselves creating violent backlash as part of their longstanding “Do Evil” mantra?

Google is one notable company who holds a paucity of general goodwill and trust. (So sayeth Captain Obvious.)

    1. I for one will never accept the proposition that an evil act done to me justifies an evil response from me.

While many things that many people, corporations and countries have done can truly be considered objectively wrong, “two wrongs don’t make a right,” and even a single wrong gives me no “right” but to sue for redress.

Absolutely NOTHING can justify this kind of attack, except the active defense of lives in danger – and even that is highly questionable – and it’s certainly not what was happening at YouTube/Google.

      1. Sure, but try to explain that to someone who feels slighted and a little unhinged about it. It never makes sense to shoot at people randomly, you will inevitably only hit innocent people and not the main target of your grievance. And that is not any kind of tacit approval from me to even shoot those who might deserve it. I’m sure many would love to put Suckerberg out of our misery too, but must resist. In his case hopefully there’s redemption.

  3. OK so Lefty Loon shoots up Lefty business and Lefty Tim wants EVERYBODY to know how sorry he is it happened.

Thanks, Tim!! Until you stated that I figured you might be happier than shit it took place.

And thanks for taking time out of your busy schedule to calm the world….so how about that tweet concerning new Mac Pros, or keyboard support for the new ‘schooled’ iPad, or revamped Mac Minis, or new Airport design or ANYTHING concerning other markets Apple has abandoned?

It seems now that at Apple “The Message” is more important than the product.

  4. Indeed, Tim Cook is very (extremely) fast in letting the world know that he is a social justice warrior rather than the CEO of presumably a very innovative company that no longer is.

  5. As a Progressive, I am concerned about YouTube’s (or the police’s) quick scrubbing reaction. Quote from an article:

“But don’t bother checking her YouTube account for more. It’s been shuttered, along with her Instagram site.

And as Trump Jr. noted: Why the hurry to shut them down?

Excellent question. Why indeed? But the eyebrow-raise goes to more than just bias — it goes to more than just the double standard that Trump Jr. was suggesting. Really, this is a question of why police shut off such information from the public at all.”

    1. The answer is obvious to me, it was embarrassing to YouTube and Instagram, hence GOOGLE (the arbiTRAITOR of news) scrubs her from existence.

Had she been a MAGA or NRA member, all her info would still be online.

    1. Nope.

“Condolence: expression of sympathy with a person who is suffering sorrow, misfortune, or grief.” Of course death of a loved one can trigger these emotions but there are many more. For example, “We shared our condolences with the unfortunate people of the UK suffering from the wayward leadership of Prime Minister May.”

    1. That’s why I choose grenades, heat seeking missiles, and nuclear dirty bombs for my self defense and justified revenge killing. Infinite freedom makes me feel strong until I realize there will always be someone with newer or better or more weapons. Then I remember why civilized nations chose to follow the rule of law — ie regulations — policed by trained professionals that ensure the peace as well as humanly possible.

      1. The sky spook(s) has yet to show and yet they still pray to him/her/it/they. Most religion is a tax exempt con and a lot is more political than ecclesiastical.

Since I live near Memphis, let me remind everyone that this is the 50th Anniversary of the Assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. He was supporting striking garbagemen who worked full time and not paid a living wage and did not even have shower facilities provided to clean up- so most walked home after a long hard shift. Two were killed riding home when the load shifted. All this is the source of the “I AM A MAN” signs.

        1. So you deny a God then use MLK (a Baptist preacher) as a symbol?

To me MLK WAS a sign from God in sprit and courage.

And yes, it is a shame what the Democrat Party did (and in many ways still does) to the Black population.

        2. First of all there is no “Democrat” Party in the US- it is the Democratic Party and yes, it does have an ugly history regarding race- in it’s past. BTW- I am not registered with any party.

The Republican Party has plenty to be ashamed of as well, they cut a deal to end the Occupation of the South and paved the way for Jim Crow. Since 1968- they have used the Southern Strategy to put racial politics at the core of who they are at election time.

MLK was a minister, but he was also a Political figure. I have no problem with people holding to any faith as long as they do not try to entangle it with the power of the state. Dr King spoke of civil and human rights is largely non-religious terms.

        3. Most people know it is the Democratic Party and they still call it Democrat. No big deal. Nothing like how you refer to our President.

Second, Occupation had to end at some point and when the Republicans placed in office were voted out the Democratic Party took over THEN Jim Crow went into effect. Plain and simple.

And the Southern Strategy is a myth made up by the Left to explain why they lost the South in national elections but Democrats damn sure stayed in power on the state and local levels in almost every southern state there is for years if not decades. Book it! (or at least read one).

Arkansas had one Republican member of Congress and everyone else from the governor, Senators, AG on down were mostly Democrats when I moved there in 2007. By 2017 when I left there were no Democrats in power almost all the way down to city councils. The Uber-left broke that party all across America.

The ONLY reason Republicans won the Presidency in those states is because the Democrats ran such lousy candidates until Jimmy Carter and then Bill Clinton. They also supported George Wallace in 72.
          Go figure…..

        4. No, it is a meme intentional with emphasis on RAT. Done for effect, tested by Frank Luntz.
          Nice try.
I guess you are a member of the Republic Party, right?
          I am an Independent voter.

No there was a deal struck between the parties to end occupation as the Republican North was tired of the cost and it had lost political support. The Democrats were the party that installed Jim Crow in the South, but very similar laws were enacted by Republican Assemblies in the North- including Washington, D.C.- then under direct Congressional control.

It was Harry Truman who ordered integration of the US Armed Forces by executive order. It was Kennedy who introduced the Voting Rights and Civil Rights Acts and Johnson who got them through Congress with support from Moderate Republicans like Dirksen and Gerald Ford.
The Conservatives- who now run the GOP- used racial politics in the South as soon as Democrats got behind Civil Rights broadly. The Solid South went away when schools were integrated and African-Americans votes were protected by law.

  6. Nobody should be at the mercy of gun-toting lunatics. I pray for the people who were shot.. and for victims yet to come, who exist just around the corner of time – we can’t fathom how many, but they are there as surely as tomorrow’s sunrise.

  7. Dude, chill.
