“Apple CEO Tim Cook has doubled down on his call for regulation that would limit Facebook and others companies’ ability to use customer data,” Peter Kafka reports for Recode.
“Speaking to Recode’s Kara Swisher and MSNBC’s Chris Hayes, Cook said he’d prefer that Facebook and others would have curbed their use of personal data to build ‘these detailed profiles of people… patched together from several sources,'” Kafka reports. “‘I think the best regulation is no regulation, is self-regulation,’ he said. ‘However, I think we’re beyond that here.'”
“Cook made that point again today: ‘The truth is, we could make a ton of money if we monetized our customer — if our customer was our product. We’ve elected not to do that,'” Kafka reports. “Swisher posed a question for Cook: What would he do if he were Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg? His answer: ‘I wouldn’t be in this situation.'”

Facebook makes money by stalking you and then using the data to sell ads. These days they even stalk people who have not signed up for the service.
Facebook has no redeeming value to society. You can get the services they provide elsewhere.
Facebook achilles heel is they include suspended accounts as eyeballs count, that’s why is is so hard to remove, after 7 years of disable I could simply log in and repeat the process

Apple should’ve self-regulated too and wait to get sued for slowing down devices. Also, before Tim Cook gets so high & mighty, he might want to take a look at his laptop line of overpriced, hardly any connectivity, lousy keyboard MacBooks.
Apple isn’t a monopoly. And despite occasional stuff ups, they are pretty good at thinking of the customer. Like when my laptop’s video card stuffed up twice they said it’s our policy to give you a new laptop after 2 failures. So I got a laptop about 3 years newer and better for nothing.
