“A growing number of lawmakers are calling for Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg to testify in front of Congress,” Ethan Wolff-Mann writes for Yahoo Finance. “This week Sens. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), John Kennedy (R-La.), and Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) all called for Zuckerberg to answer the public’s questions surrounding Facebook and its libraries of data.”
“Klobuchar and Kennedy sent a bipartisan letter to Judiciary Committee Chair Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) requesting an in-person hearing in Congress. “It is difficult to find more than a few dozen pages of deposition from Zuckerberg’s wars with the Winklevoss twins and Eduardo Saverin. But in the bits that have been made public, Zuckerberg’s testimony under-oath shows him splitting hairs and dragging his feet,” Wolff-Mann writes. “If imagining Zuckerberg — or COO Sheryl Sandberg — testifying in Congress is tough with little to go on, more may be gleaned from lawmakers in similar positions in the past, turning on the heat and trying to sweat out answers from executives.”

I’m sorry, but I don’t expect Congress to do anything that doesn’t serve their personal interests. We voted for them to serve ours but they turn on us, time after time. Every election cycle they insist that this time will be different, and then they betray us yet again and offer weasel words to cover their sorry asses. Zuckerberg et al have billions of dollars to funnel to make embarrassing disclosures go away. The whole arrangement is sick and makes Putin’s Russia seem straightforward and forthcoming.
All social media platforms need to be regulated now.
They are too influential and they are all mining so much data and as we all know in the modern world data is currency and power!
I think there should now be strict global laws as to what and how much data can be accessed.
I also believe that if we (humans) are being milked like cows by these companies then we should be paid for it and the data we provide because they are making billions on something that is’nt theirs!
AS they say in business “If something is free then YOU are the product!”
Government regulation of social media is the worst idea ever.. This is supposedly a country that values free speech, unless your a snowflake on a College Indoctrination campus, who would be the arbiter of such regulation?
You chose to use these social media services or you don’t. You chose to be political on social media, or you chose to post family pics, cute kittens, flowers, and really keep track of friends, to let someone else decide that for you is foolish at best.
Regulation of speech on social media – bad idea. Regulating the companies’ business practices – *excellent* idea. The data theft has gone on long enough. Forget about the data being leaked: where is the outrage that they had collected it in the first place?
Its too bad the media is so dishonest today, there WAS NO data theft or Breach, FaceBook allowed them to have it..

Was is just 8 months ago rumors flew he would run for office himself!
Our Congress needs to define digital privacy rights and it should have been done some time ago. This would not be an issue with proper protections for privacy.
My problem with Facebook is not that it sold data on people who signed up for the services. The problem is that Facebook now digitally stalks people who have never signed up for the service and does so without their consent.
