“A video leaked on Thursday that allegedly showed Apple’s upcoming iPhone SE 2 for the first time ever,” Zach Epstein reports for BGR. “The handset pictured in the video bears a striking resemblance to Apple’s iPhone X, but it appear to be smaller. In place of the rounded stainless steel that wraps around the perimeter of the iPhone X, this phone has flattened aluminum just like the current iPhone SE.”
“On the front is what appears to be an ‘all-screen’ design with a notch that is definitely in line with the iPhone X. A vertically oriented dual-lens camera that’s also similar to the iPhone X’s design can be found on the back. The phone is powered on and operational in the video, and it certainly appears to be running iOS,” Epstein reports.
“About a week ago, I was sent iPhone SE 2 sketches by a source that has provided me with reliable information many times in the past,” Epstein reports. “I immediately began searching for additional sources to confirm the design pictured in those sketches, but then this leaked video popped up — and the phone pictured in the video looks almost exactly like the sketches I received last week.”

MacDailyNews Take: Hmmm… Would Apple really have an iPhone SE with TrueDepth on the market along with the iPhone 8/Plus and their rather antiquated Home buttons? (Technically, the SE came after the 8/Plus, so it would be explainable, at least. And, don’t get us wrong, we’re all for killing Home buttons across the board as quickly as possible; we’re just not sure Apple can do it this quickly.)
And, if they do release an iPhone SE with the reportedly pricey TrueDepth components, can the hit a decent price for the SE with that advanced tech package aboard? We’ll likely find out soon enough as the new SE is rumored to appear in the first half of the year.

I’m all in favor of an SE2 as a Miniaturized X. As long as it had face recognition, which seems to be a long shot. I use my X mostly for audio and to remotely control my health accessories for hearing and diabetes control. For video, I prefer iPad or Apple TV.
Face recognition if the deal maker for me. It’s what makes the X worth the price. I’d trade even up for a smaller X.
It might be fun if they called it the iPhone SE X.

Well, I wouldn’t put it past Apple to pick a name that could potentially have a problem and turn it around. When the iPad name was tossed about by the rumor sites, there were quite many people who said that, if the device ever came out with such a name, they would never call it that — it’s an item of feminine hygiene, and the word is foul! A lot of noise was made about it, with minipad, maxi-pad and other variants tossed in, clearly to try to make the name completely unacceptable. And yet, eight years on, iPad is one of the most common words in the English language (as well as many other world languages).
Why not, it worked for OS X (as if anyone actually read it as oh-ess-ten).

Looking at the screen on wake up you notice a flashlight icon on the lower left and a camera icon on lower right. Those icons are not from iOS 11.3. Also the back is blank. No Apple logo. I suspect this is a Chinese copy of an iPhone running some version of android.
I do like the easy access to the flashlight.

I would LOVE that form factor. Awesome.
When the SE was introduced it had an A9 chip, the same as the flagship 6S at the time. Later that year the 7 was released with the A10. I see this as a possibility for the SE 2 as well, with it powered by an A11 and the September phones powered by the A12.
It may also be possible that the current iPhone 7 falls to the price of the current SE. The 7 would make a great entry level phone.
The line up for the end of the year would be:
iPhone X plus (2018) A12 6.5 in
iPhone X (2018) A12 5.8 in
iPhone SE X plus (2018) A11, 6.1 in, LCD
iPhone SE X (2018) A11, 4.5 in, LCD
iPhone 7 Plus A10
iPhone 7 A10 ($349 or $399)
(and perhaps in some developing countries the iPhone SE at $279)
The iPhone 8 and 6S would be discontinued.
If we have learned anything about the supply chain genius, he is happy to let major products go 4 or 5 years between updates. He isn’t even bold enough to release a 4″ screen phone at the same time as the others, and never offers equivalent features in multiple sizes, at any price. You probably have to email Tim to get him on board with a SEX RED phone to support AIDS research. Then you might get an A10 chip. Maybe.
If they sell something like that I’ll buy it in a skinny minute – love my iPhone X but miss my SE form factor – would be perfect for me!
