“Forwarding email is a quick way to send along an email you received to someone else,” Gary Rosenzweig writes for MacMost. “But it also means that when that person responds, the response will come to you, not the original sender.”
“You can use Mac Mail’s Redirect command to send the message to someone else and retain the sender in the From field so that replies will skip you and go directly back to the original sender,” Rosenzweig writes. “This is useful when you need to send along a question to someone else to answer it.”

I’ve found that when using rules in Mail to automatically handle these things, “redirecting” a message works more reliably than “forwarding” it.

Whatever happened to the Bounce feature in Apple Mail?
Whatever happened to features in all Apple apps, period?
(For those who don’t know or have forgotten): The Bounce feature in Mac Mail would send a reply to the sender’s email address indicating that the message could not be delivered because no such email address {the recipient’s} existed. The headers and footers of the message appeared to be generated by the recipient’s email domain server, so it actually appeared to a human sender that they had sent a message to a non-existent email address.
However, except for maybe keeping a crazy ex from not emailing you any more, in reality the Bounce feature did nothing to reduce spam. Once the spam message had been clicked and opened, a web bug/web pixel hidden in the email message initiated a message-opened confirmation to the spammer’s server. This confirmation that a human had clicked, read, and responded (by using the Bounce feature) actually raised the value of the recipient’s email address, which in turn meant that you would definitely receive more junk from that spammer. And that spammer would often resell such email addresses to other spammers, as their value based on activity (recency & frequency) was an additional source of revenue.
Remember the motto of all spammers: the more you click, the more you get.
