‘Little America’ immigrant anthology series in works at Apple from ‘The Big Sick’ writers, Lee Eisenberg and Alan Yang

“Apple is developing Little America, a half-hour anthology series from Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon, the Oscar-nominated writers of indie hit The Big Sick, SMILF executive producer Lee Eisenberg, Master of None co-creator/executive producer Alan Yang and Universal Television,” Nellie Andreeva reports for Deadline.

“Written by Eisenberg, who will serve as showrunner, Nanjiani and Gordon, Little America is based on the true stories featured in Epic Magazine and described on the site as ‘a small, collective portrait of America’s immigrants — and thereby a portrait of America itself,'” Andreeva reports.

“Apple’s slate is a mix of straight-to-series orders as well as projects, which are being developed for straight-to-series consideration,” Andreeva reports. “Little America is taking the latter route, joining drama Are You Sleeping starring Octavia Spencer. Straight-to-series orders include a morning show drama starring [Reese] Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston, which has a two-season pickup, an Amazing Stories reboot from Steven Spielberg, a Ronald D. Moore space drama, a Damien Chazelle series, a comedy starring Kristin Wiig, world-building drama See from Steven Knight and Francis Lawrence, as well as docuseries Home from Matt Tyrnauer and Matthew Weaver.”

MacDailyNews Take: Not quite as exciting (and surer-fire) as the straight-to-series orders (or the J.J. Abrams sci-fi drama that got away), but Apple’s slate is nonetheless filling out expeditiously!

      1. While it was tedious, going through eight years of college (undergrad and grad) with a series of leftist, progressive (and at least one self-avowed Marxist) professors, prepared me well for the present day. The real losers are the lefty progs who live in a red bubble until it gets popped by events like Trumpslide 2016 and 2020. The right can’t get triggered because we’ve been desensitized to leftist propaganda bullshit over several decades or more. We’re used to reality.

  1. Wonder if they’ll do an episode or two on illegal immigrants that murder NFL players, young women, and commit rape while working for Uber….

Somehow, I doubt it. I mean, since they fired that director on the sci-fi anthology series for daring to ‘think different’ with no intent of following Cook’s strict political dictates on what comprises ‘family’ entertainment….

Steve ‘Think Different’ Jobs must be rolling over in his grave….
