“KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who has sources within Apple’s supply chain in Asia, has issued a research note today that casts doubt on rumors about a second-generation iPhone SE launching in the second quarter of 2018,” Joe Rossignol reports for MacRumors.
“Kuo believes Apple doesn’t have enough spare development resources to focus on launching another iPhone, with three new models already in the pipeline, including a second-generation iPhone X with a ‘much different’ internal design, a larger 6.5-inch version dubbed iPhone X Plus, and a lower-priced 6.1-inch iPhone with Face ID but design compromises like an LCD screen,” Rossignol reports. “If there really is a so-called iPhone SE 2 on Apple’s roadmap, Kuo expects it will have few outward-facing changes. He predicts the device would likely have a faster processor and a lower price, rather than iPhone X-like features like a nearly full screen design, 3D sensing for Face ID, or wireless charging. ”
The announcement of three new iPhone models in the same quarter in the second half of 2017 was the first time Apple made such a major endeavor, and we believe the delay of iPhone X, which had the most complicated design yet, shows that Apple doesn’t have enough resources available for development. Also, we think the firm will do all it can to avoid repeating the mistake of a shipment delay for the three new models. Exactly my thought. MCK is a mouth piece and vanguard of Apple’s marketing dep’t, exploring market reaction beforehand of doing anything, which in itself is a smart thing to do. With the misreading of the market reaction to the V, Tim must be worried about things like cannibalizing etc. Lack of the development resources for the SE 2? Oh, come on!

He’s certainly guilty of image inflation, if not narcissism. But he gets things right as often as anyone. Meanwhile, we’re clearly in another era of APPL manipulation, except the manipulators are at cross purposes, disagreeing whether to hype UP or DOWN. 😹👍👎👈👉
Having picked up the X, I very much like the design and use of the phone. The diagonal length of the SE is ~5.39″. If they could get a screen comparable to the 4.7″ iPhone 8 screen into a chassis around the size of the SE, I would easily switch. I picked up the X due to its cameras, features, and Face ID, as well as the fact that its just marginally larger than the iPhone 7 it replaced. That said, it really isn’t a one-handed phone. I still find the urge to activate reachability, which isn’t available and that was the workaround that made the 4.7″ screen manageable with one hand. An easily gripped phone about the size of the SE with a 4.7-5″ full screen would be amazing.
Reachability is available on the X. Turn on in accommodations and swipe down near bottom of the screen.
Good to know. I must have missed it. Too bad it doesn’t work on the home page like the button-based version does, this is one of the primary points that I tended to use it w/ my iPhone 7.
It puzzles me why many of Apple’s UI elements are user-unfriendly. The most obvious example are back buttons in the upper left hand corner of the screen while most people, who are right-handed, have their right thumb resting near the bottom right corner of the screen. At least in Safari for iPhone the back button is on the bottom left, though inexplicably its on the top left for iPads. Instead of new features in iOS I’d like to see more UI customizability, a conveniently placed back button is infinitely more useful to me than a new sharing feature, gestures on the X are a positive step in this direction.

I’ll do the same (keeping the 8 on stand by).
There are two groups of people who buy into the SE. One is strictly on the price point. Another, which I think is a bigger group, that is eager for a very capable, yet pocketable, true palm size mobile device. For that device, I do not care about OLED etc, which will only jack up the price. Today’s LED screen is more than sufficient for the small screen of any phones, be it X or SE. We are not talking about a large TV for movie watching or game playing. Apple, give us a truly pocketable, yet capable business tool. Develop that niche, and I will stop bitxxing and moaning, promise, lol
