“Apple is expected to shift a major portion of its MacBook orders to Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry) in 2018 instead of its old practice of giving most of the orders to Quanta Computer, according to sources from the upstream supply chain,” Aaron Lee and Joseph Tsai report for Digitimes. “Foxconn is expected to begin mass shipments to fulfill the new orders in the second quarter of 2018, said the sources.”
“The sources pointed out that Apple started outsourcing the assembly for some of MacBooks’ components to Foxconn’s plants in Shenzhen, China in the second half of 2017,” Lee and Tsai report.
“The sources revealed that Foxconn had been aggressively working to land more MacBook orders from Apple during the past few years by offering attractive quotes,” Lee and Tsai report. “Since Apple has not had a major upgrade to its MacBook product line since the releases of its new MacBook Pro devices at the end of 2016 and has no plan for one in 2018, the US-based vendor is planning to shift orders for models that are already in mass production to Foxconn to save costs and reduce risks.”

Besides, how is a company worth $900+ billion with $260+ billion liquid supposed to keep product lines updated annually, anyway? It’s not like the MacBook Pro’s keyboard isn’t already perfect, right?

32 GB, multiple port, expandable , Power GPU Macbook Pro ‘truck’ ?

Yes let’s all base criticism of a yet to be released update on a single report from supply chain “sources”. The same sources who no doubt told the world that Apple had slashed iPhone X forecasts by 20 million or 40%….
3 Oft repeated lies:
1- The check is in the mail.
2- Of course I will respect you in the morning.
3- Apple saying that the Macintosh is still important to senior leadership.
Their negligence will eventually bite them in the ass, and I hope that they are not so far behind that they have a similar situation to the talking speakers. Alexa has become the platform of choice for Apple’s precious home market.
While no major changes are expected to the MacBook product line…I’m seeing laptops with LTE, Nvidia claiming laptops thinner yet 4 times faster than MacBook Pros, etc.
Yeah Apple, this is not deep sea science. Just update MacBook pro, mini, Mac Pro, that’d about do it for us buyers.
Apple tends to do laptops one year and desktops the next. Usually they put out one big upgrade a year. Most likely a new Mac Pro. They basically apologized for the last one and said they are working on a new one. The iMacPro was basically a stopgap. Hopefully they will do something with the Mini too.
The problem is Apple is abandoning the very user base that kept them afloat during their darkest hours.
Oh yes, I am sure this is true! Every word.
The only update I exspect is the benefit of having even fewer ports.
I wish they would fix the keyboards. The MacBook has the absolute worst keyboard I have used in the 40 years I have worked in IT.
Style over function is never a successful long-term strategy.
