There’s been a lot of discussion about political figures and world leaders on Twitter, and we want to share our stance.
Twitter is here to serve and help advance the global, public conversation. Elected world leaders play a critical role in that conversation because of their outsized impact on our society.
Blocking a world leader from Twitter or removing their controversial Tweets would hide important information people should be able to see and debate. It would also not silence that leader, but it would certainly hamper necessary discussion around their words and actions.
We review Tweets by leaders within the political context that defines them, and enforce our rules accordingly. No one person’s account drives Twitter’s growth, or influences these decisions. We work hard to remain unbiased with the public interest in mind.
We are working to make Twitter the best place to see and freely discuss everything that matters. We believe that’s the best way to help our society make progress.

Twitter is an extraordinary tool. You can use it to monitor nonsense if you like. Or you can monitor tweets from people you admire, news sources you trust, and so on. In doing so it becomes the greatest heads-up system on the Internet. People who go around bad mouthing twitter all the time are typically those who look for garbage. Seek and ye shall find.

Plenty of experts on many subjects have Twitter accounts and post on their work and stuff they find interesting related to it. Everything from hobbies to highbrow science.
I have found out that a thoughtful and respectful question- even in opposition- will earn a thoughtful reply. Even Tim Cook reads his Tweets (at least sometimes).
If I thought Apple would not make it report to Eddie Cue, Twitter would be a good acquisition for Apple. Twitter could use the financial stability and Apple could use the Social Media expertise. Remember Ping?

Same as every administration before it. This NYT reporter’s frustration with getting stories about the CIA published shows that both the Bush administration and from the Obama administration were consistent. He was pressured and warned and challenged in court to reveal who was leaking to him classified CIA intelligence, but the reporter was not prosecuted. “Several” journalists were not prosecuted, they were prevented from leaking antiterrorist intelligence. Countersuits were filed against the administrations claiming freedom of information, which I personally wholeheartedly endorse. However, the courts in the end agreed with the administration and decided that top secret information could not be published on grounds of national security. This is how the system is supposed to work.

Really should have referenced it. I also understand very little about the mechanics of cars, but I know enough to drive one. Similarly while I may know very little, I do know that there are limitations to free speech. That quality of information can sometimes be more relevant then the quantity of information one has.
So my point is that there are limits of free speech, a limit that Twitter has decided does not apply to world leaders. Your comment about how little I know about the law is spot on yet I still believe my point is accurate, there are limits to free speech and it appears that Twitter will ignore that for world leaders.
I’m not saying that any laws have been broken and I’m not a fan when comes to censorship. That’s what he did for world peace, prior to his becoming president (he was nominated less than two weeks after being in office). He did not win it because of a perceived intention that I know of, he did not win it just for showing up, at least not from the references I have read though certainly that there was a sentiment of hope that he would continue peaceful moves and I did come across one article where there was regret on behalf of the Nobel Secretary, Geir Lundestad.
Now I’m keeping an open mind so if you have a reference where he was awarded the prize based on mere hope, bring it on. Otherwise, well it looks like you are speculating, distracting and failing to see what he actually won the prize for. What I’m reading is that he won it based on prior work and efforts.

My Hungarian friend had been uncannily prescient about US mendacity and hypocrisy, possibly because of his European experience, but those of us who’d been raised here never saw it coming: America’s spectacular fall from grace, its rebranding as a warmonger in the service of corporate interests even after after having won World Wars I and II. The good guys turned out to be the villains.

I don’t have an issue with that, if people want to call others names, that’s fine, heck I might even join them. So I started off with a couple of my own terms, directed at Apple’s home nation.
