Shipments of iPhone X to reach 30-35 million units in holiday quarter, sources say

“Shipments of the iPhone X are estimated to reach between 30-35 million units in the fourth quarter of 2017 and stay flat or drop slightly in the first quarter of 2018, according to sources from the semiconductor packaging and testing service industry,” Julian Ho and Joseph Tsai report for Digitimes.

“The sources pointed out that the pre-orders for the iPhone X in a number of markets such as Taiwan, the US and Singapore, are not as strong as expected, but they are seeing Apple Watch sales fare rather well,” Ho and Tsai report. “For 2018, the sources expect Apple Watch shipments are likely to reach 27 million units, higher than the previous forecast of 23-25 million.”

MacDailyNews Take: Forecasts are nice. Actual unit sales numbers are better.

Even if a particular data point were factual it would be impossible to accurately interpret the data point as to what it meant for our overall business… There is just an inordinate long list of things that would make any single data point not a great proxy for what’s going on. 1. so half (at best) of the iPhone 6 launch when “Apple sold a record 74.5 million iPhones in the fourth quarter of 2014”

    strategy working great, Timbo

    1. Why would you use an article predicting something they have shown no skill in doing to confirm your pre conceived beliefs. There are 7 models of iPhone for sale right now and X is one. It has been on sale since November. Apple does not split out models of iPhone for sale. Hence, Digitimes has a free shot that can never be proved or disproved. The strategy was to deliver a technologically advanced phone while contuing to advance the previous generation , the one before that and the “low priced” SE. From all accounts the X succeeds at giving Apple and AAPL the stamp of delivering a genuinely new phone at a higher price point while selling less expensive new and old phones like hot cakes. Tech press loves iPhone X. MissIon accomplished. It is clear that you don’t like Cook, but you should look elsewhere to shore up those beliefs and ignore facts. As a long time Apple and AAPL owner, I miss Steve Jobs, but Cook’s products are great and company is the largest market cap in world. Cook’s made me a lot more money a lot quicker than Jobs did. I realize he had the best running start in history but you should remember that he had a lot to do with that running start.

  2. I thought the iPhone X was suppose to be in very short supply until February or March? Seems that all models are readily available before Christmas! Could it be that demand didn’t live up to the hype?

Personally I think that Apple has pushed the price point for a phone a little too much and I think you’ll see them back off of the price some. We’ll see.
