“Apple Inc.’s Jony Ive, a key executive credited with the look of many of the company’s most popular products, has re-taken management of product design teams,” Mark Gurman and Alex Webb report for Bloomberg.
“Ive, 50, handed off some day-to-day management responsibility in 2015 while the iPhone maker was building its new Apple Park headquarters in Cupertino, California,” Gurman and Webb report. “‘With the completion of Apple Park, Apple’s design leaders and teams are again reporting directly to Jony Ive, who remains focused purely on design,’ Amy Bessette, a company spokeswoman, said Friday in a statement.”

“Ive’s design deputies Dye and Howarth were no longer listed on Apple’s leadership page earlier today,” Zac Hall reports for 9to5Mac.
“Ive famously led Apple’s legendary design team on a day-to-day basis prior to July 1, 2015, but shifted his role two years ago amid Apple Park’s development,” Hall writes. “At the time, it seemed certain that Apple was carefully preparing for Ive’s eventual retirement from the company. [Alan] Dye and [Richard] Howarth, who served as VPs of User Interface Design and Industrial Design, respectively, were presumably being groomed to be the face of Apple design post-Jony, but the duo received little public exposure following the initial announcement.”

Hmm. Yes. That’s what the Executive Vice President of Design at the world’s largest corporation does. He makes stuff look nice.
First step: get rid of the notch.
Jony, notch up the efforts and deal with the lack of a true set of “Pro Macs” that don’t try to fit the thinnest or smallest volume case around.
A “MacBook Pro” should have a MagSafe, more battery, more ports, more ability to replace data drives (for safety/security, if no other reason, like when you have to send a MBP out for service, but you can NOT release proprietary files to a 3rd party — Geesh!)
Likewise, a “MacPro” ought to be upgradable with any number of replacement/addon options so it keeps giving and giving. There is no reason to throw away a 4 year old Mac!
Yes, get rid of the constant content stepping on of artistic content …
Jony is an aesthetic, not an engineer.

I hope he sticks to hardware, in which he is brilliant (except for the trash can Mac Pro)!
But in software, he absolutely SUCKS! Keep him away from macOS and iOS.
He put the cage around the Mac’s dock and turned all icons into cartoons, in addition to other blunders.
Bring back the look and feel of Snow Leopard, the favorite OS of all.
True. He was brought into the iOS back in iOS8 era? Immediately, things started going weird and font became so thin that it was hard to see etc. Don’t tinker with something you are not good at, Sir! Speaking on the font front, I also noticed lately, it is reversing back to more legible and thicker (normal) ones. With due respect, I believe Mr. Ive is one of the most overrated executives. After some coloured iMac (forgot the name of the most prominent colour, the blueish one), what else did he do? Obsession with the thinness that restricted the functions? Self promoting publishing of a book? Pls show the flair of really talented mind, like those found in automotive, architectural or other industrial fields. There must be so many really talented people under him too. Promote them, and give them the freedom!
Anyway, I am not impressed by Sir Jon.

Oh terrific he’ll design some super slim, crippled product that looks nice but has the performance of a Newton.
He gave a us a THIN desktop computer that can’t fit modern, up to date hardware and you need a degree in engineering to open.
Ditto all of the above, way overrated.
And the wait for Scott Forstall’s rightful return to save the ship from this mess continues.
