Apple’s iMac Pro ‘A1862’ model number spotted ahead of expected December launch

“While little else solid is known about the iMac Pro’s shipping configuration with only a matter of days before it ships, it appears that a regulatory filing associated with the device calls it model A1862,” Mike Wuerthele reports for AppleInsider.

“The Eurasian Economic Commission filing was first spotted by Consomac on Thursday morning,” Wuerthele reports. “The filing, calls the device a Mac desktop computer running macOS 10.13 labeling it with model number A1862.”

“he filing date for the computer was November 23,” Wuerthele reports. “The same agency heralded most of the 2017 WWDC announcements in a similar fashion in the days before the event”

  1. I want a new modular Mac Pro, dammit! I don’t know how much longer I can limp along with my 2008 Mac Pro. Being unable to run the latest Xcode, I can no longer use it for development, so it’s pretty much just email and web browsing now, a shame for a machine that used to be so great, and a shame that Apple hasn’t offered a replacement since 2012. The trashcan just did not cut it. Proof of the demand for a replacement lies in the aftermarket prices for used modular Mac Pros.

    1. Expect an announcement around April 2018. Until then…do what you have to do. Perhaps you could lease an iMac Pro for six months or a year. I am willing to be that the new iMac Pro, particularly the higher end models, will be far faster than any other Mac available for apps designed to take advantage of a lot of processing cores. It will beat any Mac to date, for certain, including any version of the Mac Pro. Until the release of the 2018 Mac Pro, that is your best option.

  2. I so want one of these beasts for Christmas. I hope Santa Cook and his elves can deliver the goods this time.. Last year he left a miserable lump of coal in my stocking, even though I was a good girl, mostly.
