Amazon Prime Video for Apple TV now available

Originally announced in June as “coming soon,” the Amazon Prime Video app is now available on Apple TV.

The new app allows Amazon Prime members to stream a variety of movies and TV shows, including Prime Originals like The Grand Tour, The Man in the High Castle, and many more directly on their Apple TV devices (requires Apple TV 3rd generation or later).

The app is pretty well hidden for now, with no promotion from Apple just yet, but it’s there. It can be found simply by searching the Apple TV App Store. So, download it before the rush!

Currently, there is no sign of Apple TV units for sale via Amazon.com, as some has suspected might be the case.

  1. Is this for 4th generation only? It seems that things like FilmStruck, Amazon Prime and others are not here for thoise of us with 3rd generation AppleTV. I got my 3rd Generation in 2015 and feel left out.

    1. The App Store isn’t available on Apple TV 3rd generation or earlier. The App Store is a feature of the fourth generation Apple TV and later, but the app requires Apple TV 3rd generation or later, so Apple will likely push the new app to your 3rd gen. Apple TV.

  2. It’s available for Apple TV 3rd gen, but apple pushes those apps to the system directly. There is no App Store, I still have one 3rd gen in my basement and it is on there. Unless it’s a mistake, it seems like it’s available for 3rd gen as wel.
