2018’s Apple Watch and MacBook models could get a major speed boost

“Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities is today out with a new investor note, obtained by 9to5Mac,” Chance Miller reports for 9to5Mac. “In the piece, Kuo breaks down how Apple is working to integrate faster and more versatile circuit boards across its product lineup come 2018.”

“Currently, the iPhone 8 and iPhone X both use a new flexible circuit board made from liquid crystal polymer. Both phones use it in their antenna designs, while the iPhone X also uses it in its TrueDepth camera,” Miller reports. “This LCP FPCB technology allows for high-speed and low-latency data transfer.”

“Kuo explains that Apple is working with manufacturer Career on integrating the technology into the MacBook lineup. This would allow Apple to save a considerable amount of internal space and make it easier to adopt USB 3.2 and other I/O connections,” Miller reports. “For Apple Watch, Apple is believed to be working with Career on LCP antenna designs for LTE connectivity. Currently, the LTE antennas in Apple Watch are PI-based… the new LCP FPCB chips will allow Apple to do other things previously impossible due to the newfound internal space and speed improvements.”

MacDailyNews Take: While we’re certainly loving Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular), we can’t wait to see what comes next in Apple Watch Series 4! And, of course, we hope to see what Apple has planned for their 2018 portable Mac lineup (MacBook Air? Touch Bars throughout the lineup?)

  1. I love my apple watch, but faster startup and updating and setup would be great. Also, for whatever reason, lately, breathe reminders just stopped happening, anybody else have this problem? Everything is setup correctly ont he watch and phone, just no reminders. Apple’s solution is to unpair and re-setup the watch. I don’t have a 1/2 day to waste doing this. Hopefully the 4.2 update will solve this.

  2. Hopefully, the next Apple Watch will be able to detect changes in human biology. For example, I recently began orally consuming a resveratrol supplement and would like to know if this compound has repaired my senescent cells (dysfunctional cells that cause damage to tissue), lengthened the telomeres in all of my cells, and increased the number of cells that can divide. This should decrease (some say even cure) disease, and increase life expectancy.

Currently, it is just a guess if the resveratrol compound is working in my body, but my energy level has indeed sky-rocketed. It would be excellent if the Apple Watch confirmed the resveratrol compound/supplement is positively impacting my cells.

How many more years will we have to wait until the Apple Watch can analyze human physiology?

    1. I suspect the data you are hoping to get would not be helpful to you in the way that you imagine. Brains are not built for science—but are good at sabotaging it. Feeling subjectively better after any course of treatment (presumably after convincing testimonials and arguments, spending money, receiving approval from others for adopting their ideas, gaining status from becoming knowledgeable, feeling good about taking pills, etc) does not a signal any biochemical causal states that are available for you to interpret. Scads of data on your vitals will probably make you find encouragement for your inner (unreliable) scientist but not information related to nutritional science which is layered, bafflingly complex and centuries behind popular impressions.

It would be best for you to sober to the disconsolate view that all micronutrients are at best 50.01% good for you and 49.99% harmful and that’s just how life operates. Our bodies are complex energetic systems that naturally degrade like a spinning top wobbling to a stop. Any influencing act, aside not interacting harmfully, is likely to be adverse.

Just for a thought experiment, picture the forces that balance a table that give it serviceable form. Now picture not understanding those forces, as if either it was an 11-dimensions table (or a normal table but your understanding was limited to 2 dimensions). You might discover that breaking a leg off somewhere resulted in a nonfunctional table. This is a true and useful fact about tables. However, it would not follow that joining an additional leg to the bottom of one, making it twice as long, would result in a better table. If a complex system is beyond your reckoning, there are more ways to ruin the balance than to discover new ways to bring it to a preferred higher state.

The best prescriptions that biology has to offer involve avoiding things that cause major harm. This has been built into the watch via the Activity App from the beginning.

    2. enable magic-carpet-like travel. If not possible in the next iteration, I’d settle for a number of days btwn charges. Traveling on a magic carpet demands it.
