iMac Pro launching December 18th according to Google

“Since giving us a sneak peak at the machine earlier in the year, Apple has been relatively quiet about their upcoming iMac Pro, however with the launch month of December now upon us we’re eagerly awaiting Apple’s introduction of the Space Gray powerhouse, and new Google search results may give us a clue as to when the machine will arrive,” Tom Sykes writes for The Apple Post.

“A handful enthusiasts of have taken to Twitter to report that Google, and now Wikipedia, are claiming Apple will unveil the iMac Pro on Monday December 18th, the last week before Christmas and a perfect opportunity for Apple to boost Mac sales at the end of 2017 through to 2018,” Sykes writes. “Just like everything on the internet, take this with a pitch of salt. As pointed out by Macworld UK, it’s possible Google’s search spiders crawled Apple’s site and saw the words ‘December’ and ’18 cores’ next to each other, and jumped to conclusions.”

MacDailyNews Take: Take it with a dump truck worth of salt, but, for now, it’s as good a date as any.

  1. This is based on wikipedia. It was edited on 10th November based on someone talking to a retailer. The tweet was 12th November and the wikipedia page was shortly after edited to show just as “December 2017” which is what Google now shows. This is nothing. Old nothing at that.

    1. Google haven’t. Back in November searching for iMac Pro showed a summary of the wikipedia entry, the wikipedia entry was edited based on someone speaking to a retailer, and was then changed back based on that not being 100% reliable information. As of today wikipedia and google say December 2017.

  2. Apple/Cook committed to shipping the new iMac Pro this calendar year, and I have not heard anything from Apple to contradict that commitment.

Perhaps this will calm those who are still waiting for the long overdue Mac Pro. It is on its way next, as promised.

    1. Apple committed to having the iMac Pro “for sale” in December of this calendar year. If I recall correctly, they didn’t commit to the iMac Pro actually shipping in quantity this calendar year. If it goes on sale 19 December or 21/22 December and Apple ships any at all on or before 31 December they’ve met their stated objectives.

Apple almost never announces the ability to purchase a new item on a Monday. It is almost always Tuesday (e.g., 19 December) or Thursday/Friday (e.g., 21/22 December). Just that alone makes the December 18 date suspect.

    1. Yeah, that’s probably how they’ll fulfill their promise to “ship this calendar year” – just get the minimum amount in and keep supply constrained for the next few months.

      1. Gee, Pauline, I had hoped that you would contrast and compare the functionality, utility, performance, power, and ability to upgrade between a Mac Pro and an iMac. Here’s your opportunity to describe in exquisite detail the differences and similarities of these two devices. Well, Pauline, are you up to the task?

      2. Pauline, consult iFixIt and you well see that iMac is notoriously difficult to repair and upgrade which means that iMac cannot be considered a professional device. What is intuitively obvious to most people is too difficult for you to understand.

  3. If they don’t announce it this Tuesday (ie, tomorrow), they will miss the entire Christmas sales season. That would be a gigantic fail, in my opinion. But, I’m not holding my breath.

    1. Holiday shoppers are not going to be spending $5000-$10,000 on an iMac Pro. It’s just not gonna happen. Those relatively few people that want this machine will buy it when it becomes available regardless
