“I swapped my iPhone 7 Plus for Apple’s 10th-anniversary handset for a month to find out what it would be like to live with this device,” Mark Spoonauer writes for Tom’s Guide. “After 30 days, I believe it’s the best phone you can buy.”
“That doesn’t mean the iPhone X is flawless,” Spoonauer writes. “At first, not having a home button on the iPhone X felt like riding a bike without handlebars. But over time, I started getting used to the gestures, and now, I don’t really miss the button.”
“Face ID is generally more reliable than Touch ID. During my time with the iPhone X, I have never had to wipe crumbs or sweat off my fingers to get into the device — something I did have to worry about with the iPhone 7 Plus,” Spoonauer writes. “But I did run into a couple of occasions in which the device didn’t let me in on the first try. And it’s not because the phone didn’t recognize me; it’s because you’re supposed to stare directly at the iPhone X before you swipe up on the screen to unlock the handset.”

As an early adopter of the iPhone X, I can clearly state that this is the best iPhone ever made. That said, it is not perfect. Having the sleep/wake/Siri button on the left directly opposite the volume buttons is a huge design flaw that has existed for quite a while on the older iPhones. I take several unintended screen shots everyday that I have to go in and delete. Its just a nuisance. Still, I would not trade my iPhone X for anything else.

As I have posted several times before. I will not spend $1,000+ on an iPhone with the hideous notch, always present and in your face interfering and walking on artist content. For those used to looking the OTHER way, no problema it is what it is.
My MAIN POINT is the disrespect shown for the artistic community, the app developers, the photographers, et al. Reminds me of the early days of FM radio when deejays would walk all over the beginning or ending of songs gabbing mindless gibberish.
Unless the notch is removed in 2018, I look forward to upgrading my SE to the latest version.

I agree with the author, i do the EXACT same thing, the videos are more immersive when you go full screen, the notch just disappears. If you sit there and force yourself to think of the notch you will obviously see it, but once you are watching a movie it just blends away into the peripherals.
Really I don’t understand why people are crying about the notch so much, if they took away screen space and kept it static it would be so much more boring and look exactly like an android knockoff iPhone.

crafty DZ. I’m here to help you not appear foolish any more. In the future, never, I mean Never Again say the Notch is a positive differentiator to Android, or any lesser item. It is a differentiator, but not one considered positive. GOOD design elements (differentiators) are to be positive, effective & desirable.
As instructed earlier, I would like to replace “boils” with “notch” and it would “perform” the same objective per your thinking. “When I pick up my iPh B, I can tell immediately it’s an iPh because of the squishy bumpiness…it’s a real differentiator from those slick, no bump, metal Android knock-offs. The purpose of a larger sceeen, for me, is watching video content on the go. The notch renders that pointless as it distorts the viewable area one way or another. Hence why I decided to go with the iPhone 8 Plus and have zero regrets, especially when I’m watching Netflix on a larger screen.
When they do an iPhone X Plus, then I’ll jump on board as the additional screen size will make up for the intrusion of the notch (assuming Apple hasn’t gotten rid of it by then).

Dude, the notch is a non-issue. I actually think its kind of cool, and it does give phone orientation. Disclosure: i dont watch vidios on my phone. Its a phone- BTW, the best ive ever had. 1000 dollars? Non issue for something i use all day, every day. What was the iPhone 7— $749? I dont know and I dont care! If you do t like or cant afford keep your current iPhone!

Design is very personal- “errors” are largely subjective. I would say most of the consumers think the iPhone X is a great design. I have had all of the iPhones and this is by far my favorite. i didnt like the design decisions in the macbook pro touch bar. I sold it and bought a late 2015 MbPro. Im not bitching and calling for Tim Cooks head. As for politics, Im a libertarian and feel betrayed by the whole system, which by the way is run by special interest through legalized bribery. Design choice is indeed personal. But with the X you don’t have a CHOICE because Apple does not offer a “notch” free X model.
I would say if they did, the overwhelming vast majority of buyers would opt for non-intrusive notch free design.
Right now they tolerate bad design to own the greatest smartphone of all time, just like a previous MDN take. But I would never go so far as to say most love it, fanboys excluded of course, because their bias is irrational and cultists.
I too am a Libertarian and gave Obama a chance and he then left us with double debt and problems, solving next to nothing in eight years. Hence, my switch of support to President Trump. The only two choices we have as a small party.

Have you used an iPhoneX? Again, in portriat mode, the notch tucks away battery and cell tower data. I dont use landscape much except to take pics and occasionally read websites. The notch is a non-issue for me. If i want to watch movies, I fire up the iPad or home theater. So honestly, I say to you, if you want to watch movies on your phone, dont get the X- the asymetry will drive you nuts. For all aother uses, it rocks. The choice is yours…you will have to take some bad with good- just lke politics

App switching needs to change. When swiping the home bar at the bottom of the screen if you come across another app that was being used horizontally instead of vertically, the app won’t allow you to swipe to the next app without turning your iPhone horizontally and vice versa, this is really jarring!
