“The iPhone X does feel like a brand new iPhone,” Terry White blogs eponymously. “It’s the first iPhone in 10 years to ditch the home button and this may surprise you, but… I don’t miss the iPhone Home Button.”
“The Home Button has been replaced on iPhone X with a swipe up from the bottom gesture. It takes all of about one minute of use to get used to it,” White writes. “I was apprehensive about a few things that have changed with iPhone X and the Home Button was probably the one I thought I’d miss the most and honestly it was probably the easiest adjustment. Swipe up from the bottom and you’re home.”

“I am a huge fan of aesthetics and while I’m not a fan of the ‘notch’ at the top of the iPhone X screen, it doesn’t bother me as much as I thought it would,” White writes. “I’m not giving Apple a pass on this because I think Jony Ive could have done better. It’s just that it doesn’t bother me to the point of wanting my iPhone 7 Plus back.”

Apple made the wrong choice with the notch. It’s bad design to ask the world’s developers to design around a flap occluding the display… Simplicity is the hallmark of great design, but Apple’s current notch design “solution” is anything but simple. “The iPhone X is a new design from the ground up. It has all the latest and greatest tech inside and so far (it’s only been a few days for me) it really works well,” White writes. “I’m glad I skipped the iPhone 8 Plus because this is the iPhone that I really wanted. It was worth the wait.”

The swipe up gesture feels really natural and just works. The little swipe down gesture for reachability to access control center is surprisingly accurate and makes a huge difference in usability.
The “notch” hasn’t bothered me at all.
Face ID is fantastic for logging into webpages. That’s a great implementation! Love it!
It’s already annoying for me when I go to use my wife’s 8..and need the home button.
The only time I missed it is when I opened GarageBand and it wouldn’t let me leave the app. Couldn’t swipe up or horizontally. Submitted that to Apple.
Also..and this is funny to me as I’m a “pro” user….first time I tried to buy something off iTunes Store..I kept pecking at the screen where it tells you to double click the side button. Had to look it up, lol!
If you love the 10 so much why do you use your wifes 8? LOL
Takes all of 1 minute or so to get used to swipe. Anybody that takes longer than that is lame.
Suggestion: Change the background in Reader to black. Safari uses battery more than most apps. Doing that looks great with the true black and saves battery. Changing accessibility to smart invert is nice..but doesn’t work for images in safari.
MDN is starting to like the notch – yahoo!

Who cares whether they like the notch or not? And, why do you care if they do?
I remain a critic of the godawful notch. It doesn’t need to exist. If you use landscape view, it is annoying.
MDN … infamous for cherry picking articles to support their political and aesthetic whims, and using their tiny bully pulpit to preach others … then MDN abruptly goes silent when they change their minds.
As an iPhone X user, my attitude has become: Notch? What notch? I literally don’t notice it.
Literally NOBODY I showed the phone to noticed the “notch”. NO-BO-DY.
At this point of technology it’s the only option, get over it. A bezel would have been infinitely worse.
I don’t recall you complaining about the bezel on any prior iPhone. Are you trying to say that all other iPhone models are ugly?
