“The $1,000 price tag on Apple Inc.’s new iPhone X didn’t deter throngs of enthusiasts around the world who waited — sometimes overnight — in long lines with no guarantee they would walk out of the store with one of the coveted device,” Mark Gurman and Jing Cao report for Bloomberg. “At Apple’s flagship Fifth Avenue store in Manhattan, the line coiled up and down several times along 58th Street and extended across Madison and over toward Park Avenue.”
“Similar scenes played out across the world Friday, recalling the throngs that formed on the first day of iPhone sales on June 29, 2007,” Gurman and Cao report. ” While pre-orders last week sold out quickly, and pushed delivery out into December, Apple said Thursday it has added more production capacity and that those six-week waiting times would be reduced.”
“In New York, at least two Chinese-speaking Apple employees were deployed to help manage the huge line, which had many visitors from China and elsewhere. Videos and photos published on Twitter showed security guards sectioning off those waiting in line outside Apple’s Orchard Road store in Singapore,” Gurman and Cao report. “In Sydney, fans set up lawn chairs while others sold their spots in line just hours before the phone was scheduled to go on sale in the region. Lines outside Tokyo’s Ginza Apple Store snaked down more than two blocks. In London, Apple employees cheered as the first customers exited the store after buying the new handset.”
“Apple is known for creating hype around each new iPhone launch. But in recent years, online pre-orders and other buying options reduced store lines,” Gurman and Cao report. “Concern about limited initial supplies of the phone may also have drawn shoppers to Apple stores on launch day. In an announcement last month, Apple encouraged those without reservations to ‘arrive early,’ an indication of its anticipated crowds… Stores will likely sell out of the iPhone X quickly, in part because of pent-up demand.”

I’m sure there will be a lot of pissed off people in those lines when they run out of phones.
if you get into a line to buy a new iPhone, and your near the end of a lengthy line and you wait it out, chances are your going to be disappointed, its a chance you take and you should know it going in.
In the past, Apple employees have taken line inventory, They ask what you want, and they give out a slip that contains the model you want that tells you they have one or not. Not sure if they are doing that everywhere this time, but it would prevent people from excessive waits since they’ll know Apple doesn’t have the iPhone they want today
I totally walked into my local AT&T store in Saint Paul, MN at 11:30P and they had 5 256GB and 4 64GB versions of the iPhone X avail. No lines. Walked in, got one, out the door a happy customer with a space gray 256GB 🙂
first impressions?
I just found a bug.
Portrait mode, stage light mono:
Take a photo then view it from tapping on the small box image in the bottom left corner…
Then arrow back to camera mode again.
It will still be on stage light mono, but if you take a picture again it will do it in color.
Other than that – its awesome. Very snappy, much better. Slightly larger than the standard iphone, but with edge to edge display, about 1/4” longer in display than the iphone plus size.
Really like it!
Cool, yeah the portrait lighting seems to be the buggiest of the apps. Looking forward to getting mine soon.
Found one more bug.
Some times, when you are in a call, and you multitask and attempt to close apps – it will work the 1st time around.
But while during the call, you go and open additional apps again, and attempt to close them – it fails to close any until you are off the call.
That’s 2 now. lol
