Apple CEO Cook tweets condolences for victims of Islamic terrorist attack in New York City

“Tuesday’s attack in New York has accentuated the growing threat presented by jihadi-inspired terrorism from Central Asia, the onetime Soviet region between Russia and China,” Jessica Donati and Paul Sonne report for The Wall Street Journal. “Officials identified the suspect who allegedly mowed a truck through a Manhattan bike path, killing at least eight people and injuring a dozen others, as Sayfullo Saipov, a 29-year-old man of Uzbek origin.”

“Saipov, in custody at a local hospital after being shot in the abdomen by a police officer, came to the U.S. in 2010 and is originally from Uzbekistan, officials said,” Donati and Sonne report. “A law-enforcement official said police found handwritten notes near the truck saying that the suspect carried out the attack in the name of the Islamic State extremist group.”

“Uzbekistan isn’t among the 11 countries targeted by the Trump administration’s immigration policy that focuses on citizens of nations deemed to pose a high risk to U.S. national security and welfare. None of the countries on the list belong to the Central Asian region,” Donati and Sonne report. “The U.S. Department of Homeland Security didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment on whether Tuesday’s attack was likely to influence further iterations of the travel ban, but President Donald Trump indicated changes are possible.”

“Seamus Hughes, the deputy director of George Washington University’s Program on Extremism, said all the signs pointed to a jihadist inspired attack, especially as hopes fade for a promised Islamic caliphate,” Donati and Sonne report. “‘The attacks take a more urgent need as they lose more and more physical space and a set of supporters that are romanticizing the loss of the caliphate,’ he said.”

  1. Just for the record, the reason that Uzbekistan wasn’t on Obama’s watch list or Trump’s ban list is that the Goverment of Uzbekistan has been a vigorous US ally in the Global War on Terror since before 9/11. The authorities there have been suppressing Islamic extremists for well over 20 years.

By all accounts, the terrorist in this case was radicalized in the US well after his legal entry in 2010.

    1. After his legal entry due to a stupid fscking politically correct “diversity” lottery which serves no purpose but to import mostly unskilled foreigners who do not benefit America, but who do take many benefits from American taxpayers.

Smart people, unlike Tim Cook, Chuck Schumer, etc., have long singled out the Diversity Visa program– (introduced by Democrat Ted Kennedy in 1989 (whose judgement was obviously already being affected by his brain tumor — as a potential gateway for terrorists to enter the United States.

      1. Of course I am distraught by events like yesterday’s, but I can’t find a reason for Tim repeated responses. It surely doesn’t accomplish anything. Is it related to image–appearing to be concerned, as a company/individual? I’m left to think it’s a branch of the Social Justice Warrior Bureau, confirming his caring never sleeps.

      1. I think his point is that you are roughly 700% more likely to be killed by somebody from a gated retirement community in Nevada than by somebody born in Uzbekistan.

Paddock also contradicts the argument that wealthy entrepreneurs are inherently safer than truck drivers, so they should get preference on entry to the United States.

    1. “Stay Safe and Stay Strong.” Ahh, ok, previous to you saying that Tim, I was going to walk out on a plank loosely suspended over the Geo Washing Bridge during today’s high winds. What was I thinking! Thanks Tim, I’m still alive today because of you. Now, I’ll say to you, “have a good day” and what will you have? A good day of course!

  2. Let’s do all we can to stop terrorism… at least in some kind of sensible and proportional manner.

Let’s also stop the sick killing of innocents by people who make the terrorists look like a bunch of Sunday School teachers… the owners of many US corporations such as the tobacco companies.

They have long since admitted they know their product is adictive and kills people. But they are still allowed to sell it. And they are still KNOWINGLY killing people. And with the lower rates of smoking, what is it now? Down to a “mere” QUARTER OF A MILLION people a year or so.

    1. People that put their lips on those disgusting things KNOW themselves of the dangers. There’s no excuse for stupid and their are loads of parallel examples of stupid that people embrace. There’s absolutely no comparison to yesterday’s event per your example

      1. People have myriad compulsions that overrule their rational thinking. They aren’t at all stupid. They know that death arrives in many forms, some immediate, some in the far-off future, yet find ingenious ways to excuse their risky behaviour.. and keep on doing it.

  3. Vlad Tepes, also known as Vlad The Impaler, is still hailed as a national hero in his home country of Romania…

His claim to heroism? The utter annihilation of every invading muslim by inserting spears into their rectum, up through the alimentary canal and out of the mouth. These subhumans were then posted along public roadways as a warning to any other islamic monsters who felt the need to continue their “jihad.”

it proved to be 100% effective.

      1. I’m not defending anybody. I’m just pointing out that blaming Muslims generally for the eight deaths in New York makes no more sense than blaming retired white guys generally for the 58 deaths in Las Vegas. Criminals come in all colors and profess all faiths.

The Uzbeks have been supportive of America’s war on terror, so it is a particularly bad idea to punish them collectively for somebody who was radicalized in our country, not theirs.
