iPhone X sells out within minutes overnight; delivery dates slip into December

“If you’re just waking up, you’re too late: The iPhone X sold within minutes overnight,” Andrea Miller reports for ABC News.

“Today marked the kick-off for iPhone X preorders, Apple’s much anticipated 10th-anniversary edition of its iPhone,” Miller reports. “Preorders opened at 12:01 a.m. Pacific Time and 3:01 a.m. ET for those Apple devotees who wanted to be some of the first to get their hands on the phone that Apple’s CEO Tim Cook called the ‘biggest leap forward since the original iPhone’ at its Sept. 12 launch event. While the iPhone X was gone online in minutes, the phone will be available in stores next Friday, Nov. 3.”

“Apple has confirmed that stores will have the new phone in stock on Nov. 3 and the company is encouraging customers to arrive early,” Miller reports. “‘Stores will have iPhone X available for walk-in customers,’ Apple wrote. Stores open at 8 a.m. Quantities of the phone available are unconfirmed.”

“The iPhone X is the most expensive phone on the market, starting at $999 for the 64-gigabit version,” Miller reports. “The 256 GB phone starts at $1,149.”

MacDailyNews Take: Fake news. Vertu’s “Clous De Paris Red Gold” phone costs $46,600.00. Vertu’s “cheapest,” the “Stainless Steel Black Leather” phone, retails for $13,800.00.

“Tech industry analyst Daniel Ives, the head of technology research at GBH Insights in New York… sees the iPhone X as an industry game changer,” Miller reports. “GBH Insights analysis showed that an estimated 350 million iPhone users are up for an upgrade or will be eligible within the next year, and Ives thinks that most of these users will want to spring for the X. ‘The real success of [the iPhone X] is going to be during 2018,’ Ives predicted.”

  1. regardless of what happens the press is going to give it a negative spin:

here I cut and paste from one such report (investors.com) :

There is supply for iPhone 8 so:
“lackluster sales of Apple’s other new smartphones this year, the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus”

There is NO supply for the iPhone X so :
“confirming reports of short supply ”

    get that?
iPhone 8 there’s supply = bad because it confirms ‘lacklustre’ sales, iPhone X no supply = bad because it confirms Apple has low stock.

    can’t win.

  2. Ordered my Space Gray 256GB from the Swedish Apple Store, using the iOS app. Managed to complete the order within 15 seconds from when the store opened and got delivery for Nov 3 🙂

Did a few “dry runs” last night to ensure I knew exactly how to play the checkout process fast. Only weird bit was that the store only became available 5-6 mins after the announced time.

  3. I ordered my new phone this morning just after 7 AM Pacific.

I live in Sacramento and my carrier is AT&T.

Just in time for a Merry Christmas?

    1. Those Vertu phones are a totally awesome farce! Looks like the same H. McGill has handmade all their phones. Impressive how he can engrave his signature with identical handwriting for each phone. I can order them with free shipping to Sweden. Should ask if there are any family discounts if I get one for each of the four of us. Would also love to see who they believe is the target audience?

  4. Space Grey, 256GB, iPhone X. “Delivers 03 Nov, 2017” ! Used Apple Store app on my iPhone. Store came on-line @03:03. Purchased outright. It was interesting that both my iPad App-store app and the Apple website store being monitored did not come online for several minutes AFTER I completed my purchase via the iPhone Apple Store app. In any case, I am one happy camper!

  5. Don’t mean to sound callus to those waiting, but Apple needs to not rush it and keep quality control the main priority. This model seems to be a tricky one to manufacture.
