Apple’s upgrade program offers members a ‘head start’ on iPhone X

“Starting on Monday, October 23, iPhone Upgrade Program customers will be able to get a ‘head start’ on the iPhone X pre-order process by getting pre-approved for an iPhone Upgrade Program loan,” Juli Clover reports for MacRumors.

“Apple started notifying customers about the option this morning through its website and via a notice in the Apple Store app,” Clover reports. “Customers will need to download the Apple Store app and choose their preferred iPhone X model to get pre-approved for a loan ahead of the launch of iPhone X pre-orders.”

Clover reports, “Apple says this process, which was also offered for the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, will let customers ‘speed through checkout on 10/27.'”

  1. I remember one year when I had two laptops and an iPad all refreshing to try and order an iPhone and the Apple Store app was the clear winner, so I use that now. Just checked it and it checked my eligibility and gave me the options of an 8 or a grayed out X. I guess that’s the page I’ll be on Friday.

  2. I haven’t received the referenced email. I did when they were getting ready to launch the 8. Anyone else missing the email? I can’t find any mention of this “pre-registration” on the site either. Anyone? I plan on getting the X and don’t want to miss out on the pre-reservation if it will make Friday morning easier and faster.

    1. Try the Apple Store app. Add the phone you want to favorites. Or go you your account in the app.

I just ordered an 8 for my wife and joined the program. Was hoping it would also give me the presetup option, but it looks like it only applies if you are upgrading a phone already purchased through the program.

  3. I’m assuming that “pre-approval” simply means you get an Apple check that simply says you are eligible for an upgrade through their annual upgrade program. Looks like I will have to go through it again on the 27th so this is just an early check to make sure there are no hiccups? Too bad they just didn’t allow the annualers to advance order their phones but that alone would probably decimate current low stocks, leaving none for anyone else making them “Angry! Verrrry angry indeed!”
